In The Giver by Lois Lowry I feel like this book is going to have a major thing happen to it. So far from the first 5 pages we can see that a ton of stuff is already happening, this stuff includes how it is written (On a big machine) and how it is going to be turned into a movie. My predictions on how this book is going to go would be that it is going to talk a lot about history and the past and how it has changed because in the very beginning of the book it says 20 years earlier and lists a bunch of stuff including how they didn't have cell phones and how a war started. Given by the books title I think that it will be some person in the past that gives something to another person to save their life or save something about it. This is what I have gotten from the first 5 pages of The Giver .

After reading the intro to “The Giver” i think that this book is about a man trying to write a story inside of the book. When I first started to read this book I didn’t understand it. It was complicated to understand and then the next page made me understand the book. This man is trying to figure out what to write his book on and he has so many people who have different ideas to work off of. One of the people wanted to propose to his girlfriend so he made a book and gave it to his girlfriend and she said yes. That would be a good idea if this guy has a girlfriend. It mention school so maybe he is in school learning how to become a good writer. Maybe he is still a kid who needs to go to school but he wants to become a writer. That is what I think and thought of the first couple pages of thr book.

After reading the intro to the book, “The Giver,” I have picked up on an aspect that may be a part of the book. It seems that the book’s story is a bit of a controversial topic as many readers have different opinions. Some of the readers believed that it was an amazing story while others thought that it was absolutely horrible. I know this because one of the reviews that the author states says, “Instead the letters were passionate (‘This book has changed my life…’” On the other hand, another review states, “‘Jesus would be ashamed of you…’” Clearly, the reviews were completely mixed with some being incredibly positive and others completely negative. So, this leads me to believe that the book’s content is controversial. This makes me wonder what about the book makes it so negative? What about this book could make someone say, “Jesus would be ashamed of you…” I highly doubt I will have these negative opinions of the book as the book actually sounds very interesting to me. Regardless, others would disagree.

The Introduction of “The Giver” by “Lois Lowry” was certainly one to remember. Typically, introductions just give a brief, boring explanation of the story. This one was different. While I was reading, I couldn’t help but notice the vocabulary used by the author. I really enjoyed some of the words used, such as “mercifully” and “ambiguous.” Books like these push me to learn new vocabulary, which I enjoy. Another thing I noticed about “The Giver” had to do with the point of view of the author. The author was speaking in first person. However, she was reflecting on a time in her life. This, to me, makes the book more interesting. The book states “Twenty years ago-...” This helps to prove the above point. Finally, I thought. By reading the introduction, I got a better understanding about what the book was going to be about. The introduction helped me to understand the author’s motivation for writing the book, as well as reactions from people who have previously read the book. Based on the introduction, I can tell the book is going to be a good and very enjoyable one.

The Giver is a novel by Lois Lowry. I haven’t even read it yet I can tell that there are many dynamic characters. I can tell there are many dynamic characters because she speaks about getting emails about how the book changed their lives. This means that one girl might be getting bullied and was going to commit suicide, but instead, a character in the book changed and came up with a different plan and changed for the better, or the worse. Dynamic characters can show someone how to evolve and avoid conflict.

Another thought I had while reading the introduction was that the story may not have been taken well by some people. One line says “...a letter that I was clearly a disturbed person and she hoped I would get some help.” I don’t think the woman took it well, not because she didn’t like the book or story line but because she must have found something she didn’t like about herself in a bad character. It is common to not like a person because they remind you of something that you don’t like about yourself.

Finally, I think I can tell that the story takes place in the future. I feel like all of these types of stories take place in the future. I hope the future doesn't end with us being assigned jobs or spouses.

The introduction to The Giver hinted at what the book was about and how interesting it was without giving too much away. The author gives examples of letters that were sent to her about the book. These show that some people really enjoyed the book, and some were very surprised and even angry with it. One example of this is a person who wrote a letter saying that the author “...was clearly a disturbed person and she (they) hoped I (the author) would get help.” This makes me think the book will be pushing the limits of what’s considered okay to write, and will be very surprising, which I think I’ll enjoy. Many people seem to also have been very touched by this book, changing their lives. The fact that one book can do this for so many people makes me believe it will be an amazing book that’s very different than others I’ve read before. A book that can do all this must, I think, be great, and I can’t wait to read the rest.

The introduction to "The Giver" was interesting to say the least. From what the author said, I can tell the content of the book will be very controversial, and may challenge some preconceived notions we may have. From the introduction, it appears this book will have to do with ideas like religion, especially of the cult-like sort; and government. According to the text, someone told him "Jesus would be ashamed of you." This is a surprising review, and although it is obviously not constructive criticism, speaks a lot about what the book contains and how it is written. I wonder what the book says or implies that would, combined with the experiences and philosophy of the reader, cause someone to think that. The content must be controversial and deep if it both inspired hate mail and changed people's lives drastically. There was even a person who was inspired to leave a cult due to what they had read in the novel! That shows me that this book will be about the ideas of government, control, religion, and utopia. If I were to hypothesize, I would guess that the conflict will be between a brainwashed person or society and their Utopian government or leadership. Overall, "The Giver"looks to be both fascinating and gripping.

I thought it was really cool how Lois Lowry's book The Giver made such an impact on all of those people. It also intrigued me how there were some people who were completely discouraged by the book. One woman wrote, "Jesus would be ashamed of you," and it made me wonder how I will react over the book. There didn't seem to be much of people who were in the middle. People were either really happy and loved the book or really hated it, which made me predict that this had to be some book to pull out those emotions. All in all I was most surprised by how the readers reacted to the book and I look forward to reacting myself.

In the text “The Giver” by Lois Lowry, his introduction caught my attention. The page caught my attention because I felt like the narrator was almost telling you what the story is going to be about and who it is going to be about, because authors normally write about what they know and you know yourself more than anything else. So when he describes himself and what went on in his life, I feel like he is giving clues to the story. For example in the text it states “Twenty years ago, I was-well, I was much younger. My parents were still alive. Two of my grandchildren had not yet been born, and another one, now in college, was an infant. Twenty years ago I didn’t own a cell phone. I didn’t know what quinoa was an I doubt I had every taste kale. There had recently been a war. Now we refer to that one as the First Gulf War, but back then, mercifully, we didn’t know there would be another”. In this piece of evidence a lot has to do with family like when he talks about his grandchildren and his Mom and Dad. Also he starts of with saying twenty years ago, this might mean that the main character in the story is on the younger side. All in all the introduction is a clue to the theme of the story.

My reaction to the introduction of the Giver by Lois Lowry is that is most likely going to be an exceptional book. Lois Lowry had talked all about how she has gotten tons of letters about the importance this book has on many people, and how it helps many people. In the introduction she said that, “...since over the years [the book] has been translated into countless languages, from Czech to Hungarian to Thai.” This shows how many places it's reached and how many people it has touched. Also it was made into a film, stage adaptation, and an opera, all based off of the book. This book was good enough to touch so many people and be made into so many different things. If it wasn’t a good book it wouldn’t have gone very far and still be read today. This will probably be an interesting read since it had the ability to relate to so many different people around the world and become some many things.

After reading the introduction to “The Giver,” I have concluded that this book will take place in a dystopian society. In this society, there will be a lot of things to uncover, some that are never even thought of for both us and the characters. I expect there to be a few iconic moments, which would be the reason for everyone loving the book. Also, the book must include mystery, as that it something a lot of people look for in books with dystopian societies. Seeing some things people have written to Ms. Lowry, I expect iconic characters as well. For example, Ms. Lowry writes, “A teacher in rural China sent me a photograph of beaming students holding up their copies of the book. The FBI took an interest in the two-hundred page vaguely threatening letter sent by a man who insisted that he was actually The Giver, and advised me not to go near the city where he lived.” This shows me how “The Giver” has impacted many lives on a global scale. I expect that because of this, the book will be exceptional.

The introduction to “The Giver” by Lois Lowry really caught my attention in a good way. I think this book will be teaching me a lot of valuable lessons that maybe I never knew. One of the lessons that I might learn is that I have to be thankful and appreciative of what I have. Another thought that I have about the book is when we start to read I think there will be a lot of conflicts that will get resolved in the end or might not get resolved. One piece of evidence is on page 3 and it states (“This book has changed my life”). To me that would say that this person has learned an important lesson from the book and he/she will try to use it in his/her everyday life. In my opinion I think that this book will be fun but challenging in a good way, because you need a challenge every once and awhile. Overall, I hope this will be a book that interests me this year.
