Being a good role model requires parents to model the correct behaviours for their children to follow, such as basic table manners like not talking while one's mouth is full of food, or helping out with daily chores such as folding clothes or washing plates. Doing so will help to inculcate good values in their children, such as discipline and responsibility, which will prove useful to them as they age and enter the working world.

A parents does not always have to be a strict disciplinarian. Sometimes, being like a friend to one's children can help a great deal in strengthening bonds between parent and child. Parents can unwind together with their children, bring them to places they enjoy or participate in activities together.

Parents should endeavour to be good listeners. They should listen to their children more often, so that their children's voices can be heard. - Due to their old age, some elderly people may have medical conditions that their children just do not have the expertise to handle/manage properly.
- Due to their busy schedules, the children of elderly people may not have enough time to take care of them properly. They may be too busy at work and they also have their own families to support.
- The elderly might feel isolated at home when their adult children need to go to work. Being in a nursing home with other elderly people will ensure that they have company.
- Elderly people and their children might agree that the nursing home option would benefit both of them. (As long as the feeling is mutual and both parties are agreeable, it can be justified)

There is a myriad of social networking apps such as Whatsapp and Telegram which facilitates mutual connection. These apps also have video call functions/capabilities that allow family members residing in different parts of the world to communicate with one another without having to travel. They are able to spend their time fruitfully with one another by video calling and messaging one another anywhere, anytime thanks to modern technology.

Through the use of social media platforms, we are able to post pictures of our daily lives and share them with our family members, allowing them to have a better understanding of ourselves. (Quite a ridiculous point because you can simply show your family members the photos on your own phone!)

Furthermore, technology has created many, albeit virtual family bonding experiences. From a young age, I was always told to be polite to others and to treat everyone equally, regardless of race, language or religion. My brother taught me the importance of perseverance. A few years back, I was extremely disheartened after losing an important match. I desperately wanted to give up but he reassured me that one loss was not the end of the world. It was just an obstacle in the way of success, one that would make me stronger in the long run.

As for habits, I have always made my bed in the morning, kept my room clean and assisted in doing the household chores. Both of my parents are avid readers and that probably explains why I am a bookworm. Their giant library of books ensured that I always had something to read. Moreover, coming from a rather athletic family, I have always made it a habit to exercise at least 3 times a week.

Family members are the ones who have always been there for us. A family provides love, support, and a sense of shared identity among its members. Friends may abandon you when things get tough, but family members are unlikely to run away when things do not work out. Once, one of my maternal uncles went bankrupt and was left penniless. None of his friends came forward to aid him in the darkest moment of his life, whereas it was my parents who helped him get back on his feet. They provided him with financial assistance and helped him find a suitable job. Those same friends of his contacted him only after the whole ordeal was over to tell him that they were concerned about him and were glad to see him, but it's safe to say that he never talked to them again. Seeing such a thing happen to someone I know personally made me realise that blood is indeed thicker than water.
