Example of Answers

Speaker 1A: I believe that the bond among our family members will be stronger if we start spending time playing indoors because it is comfortable to interact in the house and encourages us to relax and enjoy the moment.

Speaker 1B: I object that the statement as I believe playing outdoors is more beneficial to do with family as we could be free in the open area encouraging us to spend the free time doing a lot of things such as picnic at the beach or camping in the woods.

Speaker 2B: I definitely agree with Speaker 1B as we can do a lot of activities with our family when we are outside such as picnic, swimming at the beach and barbecuing. With the good weather outside, it is really encouraged us to spend the beautiful moment together.

Speaker 1B: Excuse me, Speaker 2B, if I interrupt. I would disagree with your point in other matters which we will enjoy the moment if the environment is in a good condition. However, as we figure out the challenges of a family that is living in a city or currently not having a fine weather, it will be hard for them to find the perfect place to spend time together. Therefore, staying at home and doing indoor activities such as playing chess, cooking and watching movies together would be so nice.

Example of answers

Student A: “Good morning to my beloved teacher and my fellow friends. My name is Ali bin Abu and I am here to talk on a title of ‘They believe in Me’. I can say that I am grateful to have my family as my supporters and always encourage me to be the best at everything that I do because they always believe in me. They believe that I am going to be successful and have a bright future ahead. For me, the most important as well as the best motivation given by the people is when they sincerely said ‘I believe in you’ which will highly inspire me to be more confident with what I am going to achieve. Believe is a very big word to express especially when it comes from our closest person. I had an experience when I was in my primary school whereas I felt useless during the age of 12 as we got a big examination ahead of us which was UPSR. I kept on having bad grades for most of my tests but my parents keep on believing in me that I can get straight As, as well as make them proud and that’s bring me to perform well, keep on studying and finally, I got 5As.”

Activity 2 ( Essay Writing )

Introduction- Provide a clear information of the person you choose as your favourite family member ( 2 points )
-Of course, I like all members in my family. But, as you know, everybody has his or her favour to someone in his or her family. For me, favourite person in my family is my father.

Body 1- Talk precisely about the first impression or physical appearance of the person chosen ( 3 points)
-He’s quite tall, about five feet and ten inches in height. He’s in his mid-sixties, but he looks younger than his actual age. He’s very athletic and rather stout. He’s bright eyes and dark eyebrows. Although he isn’t very handsome, many people like him because of his smiling and kind heart.

Body 2- Describe briefly on the interests of the favourite person (3 points )
-He’s a strong social conscience, so he loves to carry out social work to promote the welfare of people suffering from social deprivation. As his English is so good, he always helps me with my English.

Body 3- Give good explanation on the thoughtful things you have learned from him/her (4 points )
-As he’s an ex-lecturer of Math in Monywa Institute of Economics, he also helps me with difficult math problems. Not only does he make me read books of all sorts but also he advises me how to choose the worthwhile books. He not only helps me with my studies, but also guides me to become a good member of human society.

Conclusion- Summarize and appreciate the presence of the person in your life. ( 3 points)
-My father is the person I love most in my family because he makes me enhance my life by cultivating the habit of making self-discipline. He usually tells me to be polite, industrious, initiative, and patriotic and to be a good citizen. Thanks to him, I’ve made myself positive changes.
15 points

Exercise 3 ( The Lion King's movie review )

Introduction ( 2 points )
The movie begins with an introduction to the average, nuclear family: Mufasa (father), Sarabi (mother), and Simba (son). Simba was just born, and Mufasa and Sarabi begin the long and perilous journey from the beginning stage of the family cycle (establishing a home) to the parental stage (becoming parents and raising kids).

Examples & Explanation ( 5 points)
1-For the entire pride, the average birth rate is one or two cubs per lioness. The lionesses hunt for the entire pride, while the male lions take care of the teaching of the cubs, and protecting the land itself. The time the parents spend with their cubs help them develop morals as well as bonding with the parent. Moral values that are passed down to the cubs are: manners (please and thank you), respecting family members and superior pride members, honour, and responsibility.
2-When Mufasa pulls Simba off to the side for a stern talking-to, the audience is surprised when he says that Simba was brave to go there, and kings need to be brave. Then, we all are touched over an adorable bonding moment between father and son. Mufasa teaches Simba how to hunt down prey, which is a fantastic example of taking care of physical needs, intellectual growth, emotional growth and social development. Also during this period, Simba learns about loyalty, responsibility, respect, forgiveness, and dependability.
3-When Mufasa was killed by Scar, Simba was cheated by Scar and made Simba took blame for his father’s death. Although Simba was not matured enough to realise that he got cheated by his uncle, he ran away from the forest as he was in gulilt being the cause for his father’s death. These shows the pure love of a son towards his father till Simba sacrificed his royal life being the son of the King of Jungle.
(Or any relevant points and explanations showing the good values incorporated in a family are accepted)

Conclusion ( 3 points)
-Through the entire movie, the audience sees Scar’s anger and jealousy towards his own brother. This is the driving force behind all of Scar’s actions, and it affects everyone else in the story. The audience can learn from Scar’s example to respect your siblings and family members, and be responsible for your own actions and don’t blame your downfalls on someone else. But the most important moral of the story is that family is important, and you can’t just take it for granted. One minute they might be there, and the next, they might be gone, for any number of reasons. Remember that your family is the one thing that will never fail you, even if you have done something wrong.
10 points
