-Took place in Arkansas in 1957 
- 9 African American students who were initially prevented from entering and enrolling in the racially segregated school by Arkansas's governor
- U.S Supreme Court issued the Brown v. Board of Education case which declared laws establishing segregated schools were unconstitutional
