In the sentence " I have 18,000 Francs that was left to me by my father" shows that hes generous. I say that because he gave her his money just to help her which is an act of generosity. 

In the sentence "We have so little money to spare for luxuries. But her sadness was too much to bear" it shows that he's loyal. He got Matilda the gown because she wanted one even though they were poor.

In the sentence "From that moment on, we lived in object poverty" it shows that he's selfless. If he wasn't selfless they wouldn't of ended up in that situation. He put everything out of his way for her, he put her problems first before his.

I chose Steven Universe to represent Pierre because they put all their needs or problems out of the way to satisfy people they care about.

Because of the french being spoken readers can assume they are in France. Matilda was invited to a ball, but is ashamed due to not having the proper dress or jewels around her neck.
Rising action- Pierre, Matildas husband, tells his wife to ash her friend Jeanne for Jewels. Matilda and Pierre attended the ball and acted like royalty for a night with the perfect dress and necklace.
Climax- Once Pierre and Matilda return home Marie-Clare, their maid, asks about their time at the ball. It was also at this time Matilda realizes she lost the necklace.
Falling Action- Pierre and Matilda searched everywhere for the necklace. They go to a jeweler and find an identical to the missing necklace. They get loans to pay for the "new" necklace. They also gave this new one to Jeanne.
Resolution- For ten years Matilda and Pierre worked off their debt. Years later Matilda meets Jeanne, who does not recognize her, and tells her of her troubles. "I am but a shell of that woman." (Pg.15) Matilda struggles with her pride. First, she is ashamed because of her lack of dress and jewels. Then she is prideful with the jacket after the ball. Finally, at the end, she has nothing.
External conflict- Character vs. Character. "Would you consider 30,000?" "Lowest I can go is 36,000." (Pg.14) In this scene,Pierre is begging the jeweler to lower the price of the identical. When you have pride you show off and want to stay high in others thoughts. When Matilda is at the ball and she rejects the jacket due to wanting to be praised in the other ball attendees images. When you lose pride you will try to keep it. But, in reality, you are better off without pride in the first place. 
The necklace can also symbolize self-image. Self image makes us do things crazily. When Matilda gains the necklace she has no problem with herself and thinks highly. Once she loses the necklace she is in a sensitive state and works for teen years to try and gain something she was better without.
