This convention is mostly associated with the identity of amplification music videos.
The example from my music video shows the build up to the first chorus in the first verse. You can see how the clips cut from dark, late in verse 1 to light in the beginning of chorus 1. This reflects the overall theme of the song's lyrics being "lights".
A similar approach to this convention can be seen in the music video for A$AP Rocky's L$D. The clip shows quite weird and disorientated transitions between different locations. I have reflected this in my own magazine advert by showing a similarly edited image of the artist with the bokeh effect.  This style of image of my artist can be seen throughout the ancillary products and referenced in the music video. 
This convention can be seen in the magazine advert for Loud by Rihanna. As you can see in my advert, I displayed the possible online purchasing options (iTunes and Google Play), the record label's logo (One Famm Music Group OFMG) and the artist's webiste.
