This journal recently published a paper from researchers at Western University, the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, and Lawson Health Research Institute. The paper looks at a decade-long drop in the incidence of dementia in people over the age of 80 in Ontario. This age group is at the highest risk of developing dementia. The drop is tied to a decrease in the incidence of stroke in people in the same age group.

The researchers surmise that the same strategies used to prevent stroke, including blood pressure medication, smoking cessation, regular exercise, and a healthy diet, could also stave off dementia.
