How does FAcebook serve as a tool or medium for communication?

- Conversations, community, interacting with your audience, and establishing relationships are all important aspects of social media. It's not only a medium for broadcasting or a sales and marketing tool. Authenticity, honesty, and an open line of communication are essential. You can not only listen to what others are saying about you on social media, but you can also respond.

How did Facebook affect the way people communicate with each other?

-People used to write letters to people who were far away from them, and they would receive them in a long time, but today, Facebook makes our work much easier because the message you want to give will be received by the receiver in a fraction of a second. The amount of closeness is also impacted because we choose to converse online rather than in person most of the time. As a result, Facebook has had a significant impact on our communication medium.

How did Facebook affect the quantity and quality of information available to people?

- Anyone with a Facebook account now has access to a wealth of information. Facebook has a wide variety of news and practically every type of news. The news became considerably more plentiful, and it was accessible to anybody. While there may be a lot of news, the quality of the news has deteriorated. Fake news emerges, creates a stir, and even obscures the truth. The more news available on Facebook, the worse the quality of the news.

1. Explain the statement of Marshall McLuhan that " The Medium is the Message".

- It implies that the manner in which we transmit and receive data is more significant than the data itself. Where once we were consumers who consumed information by watching television or listening to the radio, we have now evolved into producers who create our own information in the twenty-first century. For instance, after watching the most recent episode of a television show, we can now quickly connect with anyone, anywhere in the globe, who has also watched the show and talk with them.

2. Does technology shaped us or is it us, our culture and society, that shaped technology?

- While technology can be beneficial, it also has the ability to govern our lives without our knowledge. Face-to-face communication is becoming increasingly obsolete as a result of technological advancements. According to Business Insider, the typical individual uses their phone 2,617 times every day, so it's no surprise that interpersonal conversation has become rare.

PERFORMANCE TASK : ANALYZING MEDIA MESSAGE (JOLLISAVERS MEALS TV AD)

1. Who made the ad? On what purpose?

- The Jollibee made the ad, its purpose is to inform people that their products have a good quality but not so expensive as to be painful to one’s pocket.

2. Who do think is the target audience? Why?

- I think they plan to target all kinds of people in general, which makes the ad applicable to anyone. People nowadays do not want to spend too much for anything ; having a product which is affordable is going to make your business successful.

3. What is this about?

- It’s about three guys who have just finished work who get together to eat out. One guy said he wanted to eat delicious food somewhere ; the other guy reacted because he thought that eating delicious meals would make them spend more money, so he declined and said that he will tag along next time when he gets his money from his work.

4. What ideas, values, information, and/or points of view are overt? Implied?

- The main idea shown in this ad is that not all good food is expensive; there are products that are affordable for everyone. That being said, a successful business is not just about a good product, it must also be cost-effective or inexpensive.

5. What is left out in the ad that might be important to know?

- We need to be careful about spending our money. Let's not just consider whether the quality is good, let's also consider whether the price matches its quality.

6. What is your conclusion about this ad after answering questions 1-5?

- What I realized after watching this ad was, this ad properly shared the message it wanted to convey to their customers, was easy to understand, and definitely caught their attention.

A.

I am little bit confused at first about what is really going on, the feeling of uneasiness keeps soaring as the fear of unknown consumed me. The strange background music also starts playing which amplify the mysterious vibe of the movie. After a minute, I started to realize what the movie wants to convey. The glasses are a metaphor for those who can see what is truly going on and those who cannot. They live in the current world we live in, and it's sad that millions of people have no access to those sunglasses. And the ones that have access to these sunglasses have no power to stop the madness.

B.

“Ugkat” in english, “unearthing” meaning, discover something hidden, lost, or kept secret by investigation or searching. When I first saw the title of this short film, I immediately wondered why they picked this work. When I found out what this meant, I was impressed because the title speaks for itself, just by one word, you can already have a grasp of what will be the film wants you to know. Unearthing the roots we've buried in our attempts to be equal to civilizations that are not our own. One of the things I noticed in our country is, we tend to glorify other cultures leaving our own traditions turn into ashes and blown away by the wind until they disappear forever.

C.

So these shots were my choices, the POV sequence of the plastic sheet going over the body was striking. Having the plastic sheet be the transition is really impeccable and creative. Personally, when I am watching anything, what really amazes me is the creativity of the director in choosing tools that can be use as a transition, and Jared Anderson nailed it, it is indeed not UNREMARKABLE.

How the Media Affects Youth (2015) by Oda Faremo Lindholm, TEDxOslo

Short Reflection :

How the media and cinema have influenced the psyches of young and old people is a fascinating issue. The line between fantasy and reality is blurred by the media. If left alone, this can cause a lot of issues for people. Imagine viewing a superhero film in which the heroes are average in strength, intelligence, and appearance. Most media, particularly films, are intended to transport you to another world and immerse you in something spectacular or extreme; films are both art and business. They have a strong influence on people, but you can't please everyone by making all films without stereotypical characters or exceptionally gorgeous people. The best method to address this problem is to educate consumers about the difference between movies and reality, rather than just raising awareness among filmmakers.
