This song is directed towards anyone feeling alone and broken and needing help moving forward in life. Logic wants to encourage people to seek the help that they need. Specifically this video it is about a young "gay" boy in high school. He expresses that he's gay and has a gay experience and doesn't have an accepting father. His family expresses homophobia and like many others, he gets bullied at school as well.

During this time he feel extremely alone and starts havng dark thoughts. These lyrics are repeatedly sung in this song "I feel like I'm out of my mind / It feel like my life ain't mine I don't wanna be alive / I just wanna die" expressing how this young man feels in his current life situation and that he feels hopeless like his life will only get worse. Mid-way through the video he finds a gun in his home and seriously debates ending his life. He can no longer take the pain that he is going through and he would just much rather be dead. He holds the gun to his head and decides not to do it. Later on he chooses to seek help instead of assuming it can't be fixed. He calls the suicide line and the lyrics change with the suicide lines reply "I want you to be alive/ You don't gotta die today."

In the end of the video the 2 men grow up and end up getting happily married showing everyone that life can get better and to hold on and seek help. It shows that there's people here for you. At the end of the song there's a part that says "But you gotta live right now, you got everything to give right now" showing that there's so much more for you to live for no matter what you are going through. In the very last verse it mentions "Pain don't hurt the same, I know
The lane I travel feels alone
But I'm moving 'til my legs give out
And I see my tears melt in the snow
But I don't wanna cry
I don't wanna cry anymore
I wanna feel alive"
This is after the main character chose to call the suicide line, he shows a different attitude about how he is feeling and that he doesn't want to give up any more. His marriage at the end is to show hope for others and that the pain will be tolerable later on and that you will end up happy.

This is a link where Logic explains what this song means to him and why he wrote it. Personally I think there is a weakness in the beggining of this song. At the beginning of the song it just sounds really depressing and like a bad situation. I feel it can make you feel worse repeatedly hearing " I dont wanna be alive, I just wanna die". It's not clear to the audience that the song gets better at the end. In the video the suicide number isn't released until the end which could potencially be too late. I think it should have been more clear that there are people there for you and that you can get help from the very beginning. Logic just should have been 100% clear from the beginning. One other thing that was a weakness to me was that there are so many different people who feel suicidal and like they need help. I think they should have used more then one situation example in the video. If they were to use 3 different situations it could have potentially meant even more to other people visually and even more relatable. I am aware that even if there was 3 different situations, there still may have been people who didn't relate to all 3 but at least they would have been able to reach out to a bigger crowd of people.

Overall I think this piece was very effective in its purpose. The main meaning was to let people know they aren't alone and that there is help for them. The song explains that there are people for you to talk to and walk with you through this struggle. Plenty of people have responded to this video and explained that it has helped them through they're struggle. They truly can relate to the lyrics. Logic decided to be raw with the lyrics and show that you can't sugar coat suicide. He just had to get straight to the point which helps suicidal people. They can clearly see that these thoughts are not a fun thing to go through but that there are so many people around the world feeling the same way and even people they may be looking up to such as logic have felt this way as well. The lyrics are truly relatable and the music video that goes a long with the lyrics plays a big part as well. The music video provides hope for people. They can visually see it's not the end and that there is something happy to look forward to. After this video the NSPL has expressed that the calls have went up 33% more in 2017 and they had100,000 more visitors on their website as well. They have also mentioned that the day this song came out was the 2nd most calls they have ever got in a day. This proves that this song is truly relatable and is making a change for people around the world. I hope that there are more movements like this in the future and that from listening to this song people learn that everyone struggles through different things.

This is a video about 2 gay men who relate to this video and find it emotionally moving.
