Math- test taking skills

I am struggling with students performing on the test as well as they do within small groups. I feel like they just check out if it is a test, although I am working really hard to have them writing and proving their work in their math journals, it just doesn't transfer to the test. I have literally had them complete the same exact style math question in their journals and then with our math group, but then when the test came around- just guessing and not going through the work.

Lately I feel overwhelmed by all the testing going on. It is hard to manage behavior when students schedule keeps changing. I also feel like students can do much better when taking a paper test than when taking a test on the computer. I feel frustrated that they do not take the computer test seriously... but I can understand when there are so many glitches.

I love some of the awesome technology applications that I see the upper grades doing, but I'm nervous about how to go about implementing it in my classroom without having to spend so much time teaching the kids just how to use the app. I also get nervous about one more thing to keep track of or create.

I feel that my students have been doing a much better job of talking with a partner now that I have implemented sentence frames for EVERYTHING we do! I am glad to see them having more scholarly conversation.

Coming in midyear is never easy but I have to admit everytime I feel like I'm making progress I find something else I'm "supposed to be doing". Yet, things are given last minute, or aren't taken care of on a timely manner. I feel like I shouldn't press ppl because I'm new but now it's just getting frustrating. They want data but I don't have my own access, something else I'm still not in the system.
