What struck me the most today was knowing the structure that is inside a letter of motivation for university. I was introduced to the concept of an LoM and we broke down each paragraph based on an example that was given, mostly the structure and the contents that it has.

What i found most thought-provoking is knowing that the actual minimum and maximum amount of word count is actually counted 10% more and less from the given word count. It only applies to the body that makes up the LoM excluding address, salutation, and valediction. One of the things that resonated me is also knowing that not all universities required giving a LoM, it depends on the case to case bases (relative importance). Lastly, the things that German university will look for in a LoM are personality, qualification, and the 4 P’s.

The most significant insight that i gained from today’s lesson is that I get to analyze and rate different samples of LoMs and explain each ratings based on the criteria that i made. I set out the positive and negative features that each LoMs had as I play the role of the Admissions Officer, then reporting it to the Director.

What struck me the most today was that i was given 15 set of key concepts to analyze, then to match it with its definition. It was a bit challenging but i managed to match most of it correctly. I learned key concepts that was related to the CV and the buzz words: One-Size-Fits-All and Tailor-Made

One thing that resonated with me the most was when I was trying to unscramble words that wasn’t in its form, since it gave me a little bit of hard time on some words. The words that were given was the structure for the letter of the LoM that consisted of 9 parts. The words that got challenging were some words that were also french which are salutation and rationale. In the end, we also compared 2 different LoMs to see its readability level.

The most significant insight that i gained from today’ activity is how an LoM supposed to be organized or structured. I learned that each sentence should be up to around 10-20 words and 3-5 sentence per paragraph while overall the letter should consist of 4-6 paragraphs. Most importantly, we should stick to 1 form of English throughout the letter. Of course to make it authentic, we have to write it by ourseleves.

What struck me the most today was being given the imaginary role to write an LoM based on someone else. Aside from that, we lightly discussed about header and salutation of an LoM (traditional approach and simple approach).
