Wild hogs have become a big problem in Mississippi, causing about $1.5 billion in damage every year. Back in 1965, there were only around 2,000 wild pigs in Mississippi, but now there are about 85,000 of them. Because of this huge increase, they are now seen as a nuisance species in the state.

The pork industry in Mississippi is a big part of our state's economy, contributing a lot of money and jobs. In 2021, the industry made about $82.79 million from selling hogs, but that's not all the money it brings in. It also supports over 1,000 jobs in different parts of the industry, from farms to processing plants. The pork industry helps our economy by generating about $44.28 million in personal income and $66.74 million in overall economic activity for Mississippi. This shows how important pigs are for our state's economy and the people who work in this industry.
