Without a villain the story would be boring. The villain causes the conflict of the story, making the story more interesting.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Depending on the story I sometimes enjoy the villainous character more. Especially if the villains motives are explained I enjoy reading about them because they are bound by few&nbsp; if not any, moral codes. Some may have &nbsp; mental illness or a tragic past, which gives them innocence and this makes the reader think about if the villain is being rightfully judged. They give the hero an interesting challenge, and without a good villain you can't have a good story. I also like the Anti-Hero, which is similar to a villain, but has a good goal. This interests me because I prefer the villain's methods (darker magic, brute force) and it is interesting to have a main character with a irregular style.</div>]]></description>

The villain has a more interesting backstory from their motives. For example, in the movie Sleeping Beauty, you don't know why Maleficent is so evil. However, Maleficent tells the story of Sleeping Beauty in Maleficent's point of view, and you understand  her reasons for her actions.
