Ben entered the house and he was surprised because there was almost nothing compared to what he had in California. There was a fridge, a stove, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a table with three chairs, but there was no microwave.

Mrs. Zamora showed Ben the bedrooms and he can't believe it because there is no computer or television. He didn't want to live with people who didn't have video games. Mrs. Zamora tells Ben that most of the houses in the town fell during the earthquake but Ben doesn't believe that they are lucky. Ben notices that all of the houses are very small and made of adobe/ cement. Ben realizes that the people of El Salvador need help. He feels very alone and sad. He sees the damaged homes due to the earthquake. Ben notices that there is only one small school, one church and one store. He also notices that most of the houses don't have roofs and that there are dirt roads. Rosa tells Ben that they have an older brother at a university in San Salvador and that Ben will be sleeping in his room. Ben is tired and thinks about not having a television or a computer. He sees a lot of distruction that the earthquake caused around a plaza. He sees a clock that tells the time as 8:16 which he thinks is the exact time that the earthquake occured. He sees what he thinks is a government building that no one can go in to because it looks like it is about to fall.

She once again welcomes him to their home. Mr.Zamora tells Ben to come on because they have a lot to do tomorrow. Ben and the Zamoras say goodbye to Mr.Melara and Mr.Salinas. They walk toward the Pickup truck and Mrs.Zamora asks Ben if he's hungry, he says yes and She takes him to a Pupuseria. Ben doesn't know what a Pupusa is but he's hungry.
