Henry Morton Stanley treated the Congolese people badly because he didn't care about them. He worked them to death, beat them, killed them, and caused many of them to die from sickness and exhaustion. He made deals to take land from the Congolese natives and created maps for the Europeans to steal resources. Stanley only cared about the fame and not about the people going through the abuse and torture due to his actions. His choices led to terrible things happening in the Congo under King Leopold II’s rule, including the death of 10 million people.
