In order for students to learn, they must be listening and engaged in the lesson that their teacher has prepared. Students may lack motivation due to the lesson's content, whether it be too easy or too challenging, causing the child to become bored or frustrated. There will also always be some students who have decided not to participate in the lesson before it has even started. It is the teacher's responsibility to motivate those students to be active participants in each lesson. Teachers must have a range of strategies to help students feel achievement, and become engaged.

Peer supports is a strategy that can be used by any teacher in any grade level. Students give positive feedback to their classmates who are participating in an activity. Teachers could use this for presentations or class discussions. Technology can be incorporated by having students post feedback to todaysmeet.com and displaying it on the IWB.

A big way to make students motivated and engaged in a lesson is adding appropriate humor. This is something that every teacher can relate too. School should be fun for students and adding humor to the school day can create a really positive relationship between students and teachers. Adding a small joke or funny video that is relatable to the lesson helps students walk away remembering the content and also makes them more open to participating in future activities. Teachers can use technology to add humor by opening a lesson with a funny video that relates to the content being covered. This will change students attitude about learning and help them become more active participants in the lesson.
