         <description><![CDATA[<div>The food web is a little more intricate as you can tell.&nbsp;The food web combines multiple food chains showing  the energy flow throughout&nbsp; the entire&nbsp; ecosystem and how all the animals relate to each other. Using arrows to show the direction of energy flow. This is a good model to show how the ecosystem works.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is the most advanced of the diagrams shown so far. It is also my favorite as it really shows the energy transferred in an ecosystem. On the bottom you have the producers with 1,000 kcal but only in the primary consumers they get 10% and this trend continues throughout the whole pyramid until there is no more energy. </div>]]></description>

         <title>How Animals Use Their Energy </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>All living creatures use energy they take it in from eating plants, animals, or even both. How come so little is transferred? The reason is this. Animals use 80-95% of the energy that they take in. Meaning that only 5-20% is transferred when that animal or plant is eaten. The way animals use their energy is through cell respiration, increasing in biomass and egested waste.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cellular respiration is used constantly everyday. It is when the chemicals you intake cause a reaction and make your body function. An example of cellular respiration in when you are doing a push-up. Your muscles are burning energy to keep you going.&nbsp;These are what we call calorie burning and once that calorie is burned it cannot be used by anything else. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Biomass increase is the percentage of energy used o be stored in the animal. This is also known as growing bigger. Just as when you're going thru a growth-spurt you tend to eat more because your body is using that energy from the food to grow and increase in biomass. </div>]]></description>

         <title>How Is All This Energy Used?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The way the body uses energy is through three things, cellular respiration, biomass increase, and egested waste. This is best shown using an energy efficiency diagram her it is a caterpillar. In the diagram the caterpillar initially takes in 200 J of energy. Immediately half of this is unusable so 100 J is part of the egested waste. The other half is used for cellular respiration and increasing in biomass. 67 J is used in cellular respiration and the remaining 33 J is used for biomass increase. But only the energy used in biomass increase is transferred to the next organism.   </div>]]></description>

         <title>How Do We Get Energy?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In order to have energy flow throughout an ecosystem we first need to get the energy. Now the Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed so how do we get this energy. It all starts with the sun. The sun sends down chemical energy which goes in to the plant also known as the producers. The reason they are called this is because they&nbsp;take the chemical energy and use photosynthesis to make sugars. This energy is used by the next group called the primary consumers they take some of that energy and use it. Then a little bit goes to the secondary and so on and so on until it runs out. Then the decomposers  use the energy and return the nutrients back into the ground for the producers to use. </div>]]></description>
