Ex., When Captain Beatty told Montag “Colored people don’t like (book title), burn it. White people don’t like (book title), burn it.” Both Montag’s and our societies (to some extent) censor topics that some people don’t like, even if it's a minor problem (that example being the censorship of the bible in Montag’s society). 

Also Montag’s society is different in terms of education. For example, Captain Beatty mentioned that multiple subjects are being ignored, school is shortened, discipline is being neglected, etc. (and that kids were being enrolled to school earlier and earlier) Clarraise also said, “They run us so ragged that by the end of the day we can’t do anything but go to bed or head for a fun park to Bully people around…” So in this society the education system is manipulative and “brainwashing” the students to fit their perception of a society.

For one, our societies are similar in the sense that we have become very distant from one another. What I mean by this is that in today's world we are too focused on technology and social media that we rarely see each other face to face before the dawn of technology which is also shown in the book when Montag realizes that his marriage with Mildred means nothing since they barely even know each other on a personal level considering the events that have happened later on in the book. One of the major differences between both societies is the way the media keeps the government in check from doing anything that may seem illegal or critical to us. In the book we see how the news reporters cover the Montag chase scene and let the police frame an innocent person. People dismiss ideas or movement based on an oversimplification of said ideas and movements, rather than bothering to think about the nuance behind points they don't think they agree with or just don't want to agree with. People will even look at public figures and the facades those figures put up to determine how they feel about them instead of looking at their actions or ideas. This is seen in the book when Mildred and her friends discuss who they voted for, and all it took for them to side with a candidate was for him to be tall and have a fancy last name.

Our society is different from Montag's in that we don't engage in book burning. At the very least, not anywhere near to the extent that his society does. We have the internet, a massive storage of information that once uploaded to it, is extremely difficult to erase. Millie, for example, obviously had been suicidal most likely from her inability to garner meaningful connections or find the joys throughout life. Most people know at least one person who has pushed the rules limits or further questioned why something was the way it was and in Montag's society he himself was one of the ones who questioned. I think it's a normal human reaction to react to a rule or law with "why". Then there are people like Beatty who will encourage the following of rules and Mildred who looks away from trouble. 
Another similarity in the two societies is that people seek equality and fairness, in both societies. In Montag's world the government regulates specific things like books to make sure there is equality. The difference is each society's way of getting equality. For example, the way headphones are expressed with Mildred at the beginning of the book with the ocean and seashells in her ears (headphones) shows how characters in the book are so dependent on technology. In real life, we are also extremely dependent on technology for our daily lives. For example, my screen time daily must is around 6 hours a day which is a lot if you think about it(1/4 of the day excluding sleeping).
