New York experienced heavy sheets of rain throughout Thursday, October 30, and streets, subway stations, and cars were negativley affected. Unfortunately, 2 people died due to the flash flood. One being a 39-year-old man in a basement in Brooklyn, and another being a 43-year-old man in a flooded boiler room in Northern Manhattan/Washington Heights.

SNAP benefits will cease due to the government shutdown very soon as it is a government funded system that helps provide the public with food, and tons of people depend on this system for food. A nine year old girl named Melodee Buzzard went missing between October 7-10. Her mother has not been complying with the investigation to find her daughter. The mother and her daughter had gone on a trip from california to nebraska, and when the mother came home on the 10th, her daughter was not with her. The mother had to be moved to an alternate location while the house was being searched to avoid her potentially interfering.

An Illinois deputy was proven guilty of the murder of a 36-year-old woman. He is sentenced to 20 years in prison after a 7-day trial. He shot after confronting her about how she was handling a pot of hot water she had removed from her stove. He will be sentenced on January 29, 2026. The shooting raised many questions and concerns about law enforcement of black people in their homes and led to a change in Illinois law.

Durring a game of hide and seek, a kid was attacked by a coyote. The child was only nine years old, playing with a three year old. They were playing in their years when the coyote came up and bit the kids foot. The kid got loose and ran away but the coyote followed. The father of the kid yelled at it and it stopped. The city is working on addressing the human safety situations.

Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica around the Tuesday to Wednesday period of the week. This is the strongest Hurricane to hit the Atlantic in 150 years. At least 49 people have died from the storm(Recorded), and sadly there are still many more people missing. The towns that this hurricane has touched have been utterly destroyed. Jamaica got slimed by the category 5 storm that had sustained winds of 185 mph. This really makes you wonder if climate change is affecting these storms.

President Trump hosted a 'Halloween Bash' for kids to trick or treat during the government shutdown. Hundreds of kids came, filling up an entire ballroom in the White House. Some kids dressed as superheroes, dinosaurs, or ballerinas. While some dressed as Trump or famous American people. He handed out full-size Hershey bars and Twizzlers. In Chicago many people were protesting at a federal immigration facility about the ICE raids. While they were blocking the entrance many got detained. Reporter Alexa Van Brunt stated "being kidnapped off the streets, packed in hold cells, denied food, medical care, and basic necessities, and forced to sign away their legal rights,” following with “everyone, no matter their legal status, has the right to access counsel and to not be subject to horrific and inhumane conditions”. She says this to bring more attention to the deportations and to find a way to do it in a humane way.
