2) Personal Statement on Leadership

Leadership is generally said to be an individual quality/act but I believe apart from an individual quality it is a team quality too. This is because leadership is guiding others, helping them in taking decisions and being a constant support for others. Not only this a leader should at the same time learn from others/team the way they deal with certain situations, the way they solve problems or react to the situation. Thus, a leader is a supporter but he also learns or gain experience from his team. Leadership is the ability to bring people together and guide them how to work as a team. For me Leadership stands for:
L - Learning from Others
E - Exemplary
A - Adaptive
D - Decision Making
E - Efficient
R - Resolute
S - Self-Confident
H - Honest
I - Inventive
P - Positive Attitude

I believe being a leader is not an easy task. You need to have a balance on everything. You are solely responsible for all the acts and actions that take place, the results of the decision make, the way you solve a problem. However, you are answerable to the higher authorities and you are the one who will face the consequences.
Despite all these, I love to be a leader. I am always so confident about it. I know I have the qualities of being a leader.
Here are certain things I have done being a leader and my experience to the same.
I have always been a very active child and took part in all the major activities from dancing to academics.

1) During my school days I was a part of a club under the environment department of our school. It had various categories to work under as the head of the Waste Management Department. We used to organize various cleanliness drives to the nearby areas of our school and at the same time take care of the school's Waste Management. We also used to go for wall painting (for which I had a picture in the newspaper too). Being the head of that department I have faced certain problems that are to manage the team. Since that was for the first time I ever was ahead for something. I was at my learning stage. Taking certain guidance from my teachers I anyhow managed the entire team in an organized manner for 2 years. This was the time I gain confidence that yes I can be a leader, ahead and I can take up responsibilities.

2) During my schooling we organized a National Financial Literacy Assessment Test since I was a Finance Student as during 11th and 12th standard and the exam was conducted for students of class 8th to 10th. So I along with my classmates together we used to divide the classes among ourselves and used to prepare the students for that exam.

3) Me and my friends during our first year of UG decide to prepare a dance for our super seniors for their farewell. I love dancing. It was very important for me to prepare a well organized and something which everyone may like. Since I initiated this idea I had to convince my friends because some of there were non-dancers. Here I bought up my leadership skills to convince my friends and at the same time prepare the dance and teach them. It was difficult I had to explain ever so many times what a leader has to do to make sure everyone gets comfortable and then they learn.

4) As soon as I entered my Under Graduation college I was a BBA Marketing Student, where we had a club for organizing Marketing Events and I was the leader for two events during 2nd year and 3rd year. The events organized were Foodie Street and Queen of Sales Respectively. While leading the 2 events I enjoyed it a lot, as a leader I got so many opportunities to showcase my leadership skills of being confident, manage everything from scratch, taking permissions for HOD and Principal of the college. Having direct contact/meetings with the staff. Preparing my team for everything. There were certain conflicts that I came across. Since it was a creative event and we could have implemented so many ideas for it. It was really difficult to select the feasible idea as well as best for the students. I came across a situation where I like someone's idea but the other person wanted her idea to get selected so they used to fight among themselves. Which created a lot of mess and being the leader it became very important for me to take the right decision and at the same time convince others to support that idea.

5) Currently I am pursuing MBA in Aviation Management and I am the Class Representative of my batch. This position brings up a lot of responsibilities. Being the CR I set an example for the other classmates to perform the task in a particular manner. As a leader needs to be exemplary a CR is Exemplary. The next most important thing is Communication or acts as a communicator between the students and the faculty. To provide the information on time to yeh students and inform the teachers any issues students are facing etc. This is exactly what a leader does to act as a communicator between employees and higher authorities and guide others to proceed in a particular direction. There are certain situations we overcome as a CR that is conflict resolution, there are times that students have issues among themselves, and being the CR we try our best to make proper decisions and resolve the conflicts. We cannot go to the higher authorities every time, here is when we can show our leadership skills of decision making, problem-solving.

Since we are in the online mode of study, here is a different problem we face that is some students in the class are not at all active and when we get some group assignments it is difficult to deal with them as one cannot do a complete group assessment individually. This is the time when conflict occurs in the class that active students want to create their group with all the active students but this is a problem for those who are active but cannot fit into a group due to the minimum number of participants in a group. This becomes unfair for them. As a leader, it becomes really difficult to manage them and solve everyone's problem individually. No one wants to work with the inactive one, the ones who don't even check their WhatsApp and respond only when the assignments id done by the other members. CR's have taken out a solution for that which is to randomize the entire class into the group. We use a website to create groups randomly by taking care that at least everyone gets at least 2 active members. This was important to stop the class conflicts and help them to act as a team. I am so happy after resolving this conflict and I can proudly say that we have unity among our class.

6) At present I am a part of various clubs at UPES like Manthan, Udaan, and Logistics. I am either the head or was a team member for a particular event. Being a part of the Event Management team is challenging you to need to be inventive, efficient to manage the team and the tasks effectively. The biggest challenge here is that generally team members give their names just to get a certificate but are not available when they are asked to work. As a leader, we had to keep them involved and maintain their interest to work as a team and not to make them feel that they are working under us. Rather we learn from them, adopt their ideas and make changes so that they feel involved.

During my leadership group project, we took the topic Group Discussion. It was an amazing time when we used to meet on Google meets and interact with a few of my classmates. Well, no one ever thought we will be doing our group projects in online mode but this is what we call life, always unexpected.

My Experience:
It was the first week of our interaction where we decided to take Group Discussion as our topic. The major reason for taking this topic was the use/importance. We are at a stage where we have to undergo GD and interviews in the coming months. And Group Discussion is very important for a Placement procedure. But so many people still lack the confidence to have a GD. The same was with our team. Here was for the first time I got a chance to showcase my leadership skill. That is convincing. Two of my teammates were not in favor of the topic but it was the need of the hour and I decide to talk to them, figure out what's the problem and then convince them by proving them the solutions.

After we all were set to proceed, it was time to create a presentation but we decided to keep it on hold because as a leader before you and your team work on something you must be aware of the topic. So I decided to give some time to the learning stage. As a leader learning is one of the major processes. So we decided to watch some YouTube videos and some live Group Discussions to get the basic idea.

It was week 3 we all have some learnings and then we decided to start preparing the presentation before that we had to decide what all topics are to be included that is the table of content. So I took the charge and prepared the list with the approval of my teammates again a leadership skill that is taking charge or taking responsibility. As soon as we were set with the table of content I distributed the topics to each one of them, to begin with, their research on the assigned topics.

Week 4 and it was time to get the results of what material we all have gone through. As usual, we had a member who didn't complete his work on time. Here is when the challenge comes for a leader. To make sure that everyone does their task. I decided to ask that member to research the spot for the assigned topic because I didn't want to waste the time and also I didn't want then other members should think that it's okay if we do not complete the assigned task on time. Here as a leader, I set an example for them.

We were preparing our presentation with all the material we had. Here was the time when the YouTube videos worked for us. Since we all were aware of each other's topics we could help each other to frame the material in a planned manner and give guidance to each other.

As soon as we were done with the ppt we decided to finalize it and have some meetings to prepare the audio content. Here again, we distributed the slides to each other. But this time we shuffled the slides, for example, I prepared the evaluation of GD but at the time of presentation, I took introduction as my topic. The idea behind this was to take other's task as a challenge and do it in the best possible way. Also, it improved our learning process.

We had various meetings to practice the content we prepared and record the same. Finally, we got the best recording of the explanation of the presentation.

Now it was time to prepare a demo GD. It a very difficult task for a few of the mates. Since they lack confidence. As a leader, I tried to convince them to explain to them the importance and asked them to be an example for others, who too are scared of GD.

Finally, all the teammates agreed and we had a good GD session.

LEARNINGS:

1) I had a new experience in managing a team.
2) Cooperation and coordination which is very important for a team.
3) Thankfully we had no conflict but still, I was sure enough to handle that.
4) I learned how to boost up someone's confidence and help them to give their best.

CHALLENGES:

1) Convincing everyone to be available at the same time.
2) Getting work done by others, those who stayed inactive.
3) Once the work was done I had to recheck that because generally inactive members does complete their work but the work is not up to the mark.

Define What Generally Makes a Great Leader.

"It's a combination of a lot of factors, but it all boils down to having confidence in your values." You can't expect others to regard you as a leader unless you believe strongly in your own ideas. When you have it, you can build on it by being a good communicator, listening to others, setting an example, putting the best foot forward, and not giving up. Great leaders make the difficult decision to compromise themselves in order to better the life of those around them.

“Being a successful leader requires the ability to demonstrate reverence, empathy, and concern for those who follow you. Gaining someone's respect while also demonstrating that you care for their work or ideas is essential for a good relationship. Empathy encourages a leader to interact with a person's feelings in order to show that you understand what it's like to be in their shoes. A individual who possesses all three of these characteristics will undoubtedly be a great leader. To successfully control the result of a team, you must first understand each individual's strengths and weaknesses.

They surround themselves with excellent people who they can develop into a team of capable, self-assured individuals who can collaborate effectively. “A great leader has a compelling vision, bravery, dignity, sincerity, modesty, and a laser-like concentration. He or she is a strategic thinker who values collaboration "Excellent leaders have a clear sense of mission and are excellent communicators. I want to be the kind of leader who drives people to be the best they can be while also making them feel secure, because leadership begins with the heart."

Take a Self-Assessment

1) Keep a close eye on yourself.

Observing a video clip of yourself, in addition to self-assessments, can be a useful way to learn more about your leadership tendencies. This type of exercise will help you assess how you present yourself and demonstrate characteristics of various leadership styles, such as honesty, modesty, and faith.

2) In addition to self-reflection, seek input on your effectiveness from others with whom you communicate and collaborate. You will find inconsistencies in how you view yourself and chart a roadmap for change by asking your classmates for their opinions about how they interpret your leadership style.

Write a Personal Vision Statement.

Leaders who are successful should not take their positions for granted. Leaders have the ability to inspire and encourage others, as well as make a difference in the careers of their subordinates. My leadership vision statement is to lead with honesty, justice, modesty, and transparent and truthful communication on a consistent basis. To guide and build my team while maintaining a respectful, pleasant, and professional workplace.

It wasn't easy for me to come up with a vision statement. I had to really consider who I wanted to be as a leader and what I wanted my workers to get out of working with me.

Analyze What Others Think of You & Identify Current and Lacking Leadership Skills

I took feedback from 4 of my friends (Aashna, Aniruddha, Sambit, and Sharon)

As per their observations, they all believe that I am a good Coordinator and at the same time supportive. But they also think that I doubt my ability, they feel that I am good at things but it's me who lack confidence and then take a step back and let the opportunity go.

The quantities they found in me are leadership, coordinator, multi-tasking, energetic and good at communicating and these all are the features of an extrovert person, same my friends believe but they don't know the other side of me. I am strong but I like to stay alone, I don't want to share things with others, I want to deal with everything on my own without any interference, I don't feel good when asked about something, I don't share what I feel which are the features of an introvert person.

I stand strong all the time but I am emotional, I get hurt easily but I know how to stabilize myself. This is another side of me that actually no one knows.

The only reason why none of my friends are aware of this is that I never share, I never show, and I don't want to. I want everyone to know that I am strong and I have the capability to deal with everything. It's obvious if I won't share things I won't let others know what's going on they will only be aware of what I show and not what I actually feel.

But I am happy like that only. I feel good stating that I can and I do handle my problems on my own. I don't want others to ever feel that I am weak or I am emotional.

I take it in a very positive way and I never that this comes in between my career or relations. I am like this from the start and I enjoy this.

My friends told me that leadership is my strength but this sometimes turns out to be a problem for me. As a leader when I guide someone or suggest something there are people who do not like to be lead by others or have difficulty in working under someone. This leads to miscommunication and problem generation, unwanted disputes, and the other person began to develop the wrong image. Everything gets unorganized and one doesn't achieve his/her actual goal.

Further, my friends have an opinion that I am very supportive and always there to help this leads to another problematic situation because I want to say no to something/someone but I cannot, and then the time which I want to give to myself or in which I want to complete my pending work I cannot do that but I will be helping someone else. Which turned out to be a drawback for me. As I could have utilized that time for my self-learning.

Write an Action Plan

Here are some suggestions I would like to proceed with:-

1) I will try to say no to other as I have to do my work as well

2) I can try to give other more opportunities to come up and give their suggestions for any task going on. This will give them a feeling that they are important and I am not forcing anyone to take my opinions into consideration every time.

3) I will try to manage my time by not being available for everyone every time and keep my work or self-leaning into priority. This is very important for me to overcome this as I keep on helping other or solve their problems and waste my whole day.

8) Essay on Leadership Growth

MY PROGRESS IN LEADERSHIP

Society is facing a leadership crisis now, maybe more than at any other point in history. The rate of leadership turnover has risen dramatically as a result of a variety of factors. Leadership, on the other hand, is still necessary and needed. People can't work without it, in reality. Human beings depend on leadership for guidance, momentum, and, eventually, hope.

RECOGNIZING MY LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS

After acknowledging the significance of leadership, I realize that leaders begin as individuals who work and interact with others. They develop into good leaders as a result of the things they do. As I work to become a better leader, I've noticed that there are four general characteristics that are required for success: nurturing ongoing and interactive relationships, being in contact with innermost thoughts, emotions, and values, walking the talk, and leading through influence.

NURTURING ONGOING AND ENGAGING RELATIONSHIPS

The ability to cultivate ongoing and interactive relationships is a skill that all successful leaders must master. I've created four guidelines that I must follow in order to progress in this area:

1) Allow for a level playing field in terms of ideas: As a result, the people with whom I work would feel more comfortable speaking up. This will benefit me in the long run because I will be able to build an efficient team capable of achieving its objectives.

2) Take into account the needs of the employees: I'm demonstrating that I'm concerned. Being unconcerned about my employees' needs jeopardizes my leadership performance because employees would be less likely to go the extra mile when it's required.

3) Meet the needs of the employees: By doing so, I can show that I am willing to intervene when necessary to improve the employees' ability to do their work. This will ensure that I gain the staff's confidence.

4) Listen to and validate employee concerns: When workers take the time to raise a question, I need to listen to and validate their concerns. Through doing so, I demonstrate to workers that I can see things from a different perspective. This intervention would assist me in forming strong bonds with the workers.

BEING AWARE OF ONE'S OWN INNER THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, AND VALUES

1) Walking the Talk: I must behave in a way that is consistent with my words in order to walk the talk. As a leader, I recognize the importance of doing what I preach. When words and deeds come together, it's the pinnacle of leadership. Good leaders must be passionate about what they're doing. When leaders believe in their objectives, others will notice and easily rally behind them.

2) Leading by Persuasion: I've found that effective leaders use influence rather than coercion to gain support and inspire their employees. I understand the importance of demonstrating inspiration and maintaining a positive attitude in order to affect others. I don't use force as a motivator when I lead by influence. I've discovered that using force to motivate workers would jeopardize their long-term commitment.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to determining what makes a leader successful. However, if I stick to these methods, I am sure that I will emerge as a great leader.

FINAL REMARKS
As a result, my leadership development plan will aim to make me a well-rounded person who lacks empathy, a patient listener, leadership inspiration, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Also, since I have extraversion, cognitive antecedents, and a deep desire to succeed, I would like to strive to follow in the footsteps of the aforementioned residents. Another aspect of which I would be dealing with in order to carve out a strong position for myself in the dynamic world of leadership is group achievement. As a result, my leadership development plan will include all of the positive qualities and skills mentioned above while excluding the majority of the undesirable characteristics.
