One cannot love one particular song without doing himself damage that is because if you get too caught up in one song you aren't making adequate time for other songs. I believe Ratliff's meaning of "endless inventory" is that he is trying to have an "endless collection of songs that he listened to and can remember and described. This doesn't mean that he must listen to literally every song ever but he can listen to a wide enough range that he gets a pretty good view on A LOT of songs. another major point is seeing an artist's progression or digression as they continue. in order to do so they must have a wide variety or "inventory" of songs. By now he has two beautiful children to his lovely wife. He has found his place in life and found love and is trying to do right by his kids. He has found a religion (Islam) he is dedicated to and he has progressed greatly as an artist which you can even tell by his amount of views. In the first song I included his views were 5 million.
