In the “Year of Impossible Goodbyes” Sookan and her family are under rule of the Japanese until Russia takes over and then people start fleeing to the south to escape Russia’s rule and Sookan’s family start to plan and do a lot of things to gain Russia’s trust so they can escape to the south. When they realize they all can’t go because Russia will realize they left and they would get caught so Sookan’s Aunt Tiger and her family friend Kisa stay behind so they can be free and they helped them so much in this moment and sacrificed so much for her family. Her sacrifice was so important because it cost her freedom but she gave them freedom. “Kisa sighed “I can’t go. If I disappear, the Russians will notice immediately and will send a search party after me. Then we’d all get caught and be brought back here to face the machine guns. Aunt Tiger and I have to be here to cover for you and give you a chance to cross the border.”(page.122)

I remember this one time these older kids were making fun of me and my brother because we were playing soccer together and at the time we were young so they kept making fun of how bad we were. Even though it didn’t bother us, my older sister came in and stood up for us. She told them to leave us alone and to get out of here. At that moment I felt so happy because I’d never think of my sister standing up for me because she never really pays any attention to me from that moment on I would never think the same of my sister and this shows that even if the family never pays attention to you at the end of the day family is family and they will always have your back and even if someone tries to talk bad about my family I will always stand up for them.

In Hackensack Middle school I feel like there are a lot of people who consider their friends family and they always stick up for them and are with them. One I heard this kid say if you are going to bother him you are going to have to deal with me too. Also, I saw people get into fights because of people that make fun of their family or friends. I think this happens so often because family is something important to them and delicate and they don’t want anyone to break it.

This girl named Brooklyn Brown was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis but the only thing that really makes her happy is her coloring. The doctor told her mom that she couldn’t reuse the crayons because it risks of disease transmission. So, her mom keeps buying crayons for her to color and for her joy. “ Her mother, Rychee Brown, explained that hospitals have coloring pages and paper for children. But they can't reuse crayons because of concerns about disease transmission. It can be expensive to provide new crayons to every child who's admitted” (Paragraph, 7). “ The family started a wish list online, so anyone who's interested can contribute(Paragraph 8. Her mom bought her 2,639 packs of crayons and that shows that she has her back and sacrificed a lot for her joy.
