I know this because she stuck her head up through the chimney and saw two eyes, then she went outside and followed the cat-looking creature. When she got to a point, she heard a voice talking to her her; the thing was that she couldn't see what it was. When it asked her question she didn't answer the text says, "You fixing to stay a spell?" the voice inquired. She shrugged and turned right. "Stubborn as a mule" the voice remarked" This text proves the fact that she is a risk taker because most people would just answer the "voice" and ask for a way out and wait for the "voice" to answer. But unlike those people she kept trying to get out of the maze and didn't answer the "voice." In this scene it makes it look like sophie isn't scared. It looks this way because she just shrugges her shoulders and doesn't answer. Also the tone is wetness on the ground and rocks, bumpy ground, it says " Slipping on the wet grass and and banging her toes on loose rocks." This reveals the tone of the setting.

While shes there she is known as a thief. she was ms fair child daughter Lisa. then, it explains he she works as a slave. And how she gets whipped. Old Missy a character in the book she knows that Sophie has a fair child nose.

She comes back from 1860 on page 229 the creature brought her back.

b.)The personal conflict is between Smelt and Stink and Mr. Brewster and the people who help with the underground railroad. Homer is also helping Mr. Brewster because when Smelt asked Homer where the slaves were hiding, he told him the wrong place so that the wouldn't find the slaves and sell them for money. Another time when he helped the slaves was when he helped Mr. Samuel Reed (who was also captured by Smelt and stink) by telling the two guys that Mr. Reed was most value when alive more than dead. This helped because he was still alive and escaped when Homer was tricking them.  I also think that Homer was super lucky to survive because when he was riding to the front of the war he was getting shot at but missed. I feel really bad for Isabel because on page 81 she gets the blame put on her even though everyone knew it was really Lockton who had hurt her and made her lip bleed. It says, "...she scolded me for not scraping candle wax that had dripped on the floor. "It cause me to fall" she said. "Do you see what your clumsiness has cost me?" We both knew it was a lie." This shows that Madam doesn't want to put the blame on her or on Lockton. There was really no candle wax on the floor anyways. Madam is a really bad liar.
