The following video link highlights a teacher coding a running record while a student reads. This video allows the viewer to listen to the student read while getting to view a teacher perform a running record in real time. In this video, the teacher coded the running record by doing the following:
1. Placing a check mark above the words pronounced correctly.
2. Placing a "T" above the words that the teacher had to help the student pronounce.
3. Writing the word of what the student actually said above the word that was supposed to have been spoken.
4. Asking a series of comprehension questions.

Personal Reflection

I have conducted Running Records with 2nd grade students. The first time I completed a Running Record, I was shocked by how fluently some of the students could read. In fact, it was somewhat of a challenge to keep up with the running record, as some of the students read at such fast rates. However, the more Running Records that I carried out, the more successful I got at conducting them. Additionally, once I was aware of the conventions for filling out a running record, the more comfortable I became. The Running Record Sheet that I used was similar to the one featured below. In this particular Running Record, there are no words to code above for, and there are also no boxes to place check marks in. I personally was not a fan of this unstructured format. This caused some of my Running Records to look rather unorganized. As a future teacher, I think that I will implement Running Records which already have the words printed or have boxes in which my coding can be recorded.

How to score a Running Record.
4. Running Record Scorecard for calculating:
-Error rate
-Self-correction rate
-Accuracy
-Words per minute
-Words per minute correct
5. Chart depicting how and when to move students up in a reading level.
6. How to choose an assessment.
7. How to award a student's reading progress.

I will personally use this website as a resource in the future to specifically refer to Running Record calculating when attempting to determine percentages such as error rate or accuracy.
