I used to look at sculptures as a whole and not on a deeper level. Whenever I think about how sculptors create a masterpiece, I thought it was just what they envisioned in their minds. The sculptures they create are done and though off on a whim.

Sculptors do not just create or think of a masterpiece immediately. I have learned that there are other elements they have to consider in order to make their sculpture beautiful. This includes the material that they use. They are not only constrained in using solid materials but other forms as well. For example, the Water Stone by Isamu Nogichi. He used water in order to give the sculpture a sense of movement and the principle of contrast to emphasize certain elements.

I also learned about the development of sculpture through the years. Does he think of each principles and how he would apply it to his artwork? Or are they great sculptors that create certain elements unintentionally but nonetheless cohere into a beautiful artwork? I'd also like to learn about the process of creating a sculpture when there is a muse involved. Does the sculptor follow the principles as well?
