I chose to name my ideal school after my therapist who helped me transition back into public school, after being homeschooled for three years and was hospitalized. I had a lot of anxiety and was behind in school and socially due to my medical incident. She helped me find my passion in school again and coping mechanisms for my anxiety and panic attacks. Without her guidance I wouldn't be where I am today.

Our curriculum addresses a wide range of inclusiveness. Through learning styles,diverse content and material, culturally and relevant courses, and encouraging self advocacy. We've also added a variety of classes and programs that offer healthy habits to support our students' mental health.

Our teachers and staff are always learning how to do better for our students. We provide different learning styles in each classroom, along with integrating cultural and relevant learning to our lessons . We value the importance of SEL (social-emotional learning) and our students' mental health. Which is why we offer programs and classes to manage and express themselves. Some classes we have are meditation, journaling, art, music, dancing, boxing, and mind/body/soul. For a more one-on-one approach we offer guidance with our life coaches who help with coping mechanisms. For anger management, anxiety, stress, healthy relationships, bullying, and cultural implications within family and learned behavior. We also provide programs and workshops at our school to guide our students into adulthood. Such as drivers ed, Financial classes, to learn how to open a credit card, manage money, loans, and filing taxes. Along with job interview practices and how to build a resume.

We also show some guidance as to how to live independently. And of course how to find the best college for each student and apply and a guide through financial aid. Students thrive when in an all inclusive school that encourages them to do their best and provide the resources that they need to succeed as a young adult.

Where each computer has been updated to be equipped for mobility and cognitive functions, along with hearing and vision. Through these laptops they can work on any online assignments from their classes and access our grading system through our school portal. They can also work on their skills, such as creating powerpoints, typing, game-based learning, and research. Classrooms also have smart boards for teachers to engage with their lectures and teachings. For students who can't make it to class, our teachers record the objective and lesson of the day and upload it to the school's portal. So students can access this recording and work on their assignments from home. Our school provides accessibility access, we have elevators all around the school and push buttons to open doors. Technology is a tool we use everyday which is part of our learning process.

At Detenber Academy we believe and stand by the involvement of families to engage with their children and staff here at our school. We understand and value our families questions, concerns, and opinions, which is why we have monthly meetings. Where parents can voice out their concerns to the school and understand their child's academic career. We also engage through events for families and students to get together. Our community here at Detenber, loves to celebrate the different cultures that make up our wonderful classes. It is a great way to learn and grow with our community! Each year through our mental health classes we also put together a huge event that celebrates our accomplishments. The students get together and put a showcase for their parents and school. Family engagement in Detenber Academy is what improves our quality at school. We strive to build stronger and reliable relationships with our community.

In the past few months students were bringing in canned goods and food to support our pantry for those who are in need of food. We also had a color run fundraiser to support and raise money for Griffin Friends Children Cancer for Baystate. It was a fun event filled with colorful paint being sprayed at certain check in points. We also have a recycling drive all year long where students bring in their recycling goods, cans, clothes, books, paper, etc. This works hand in hand with our gardening club, since we have a huge compost area to create our own soil and fertilizer for our produce we grow right at our school! This is just in the past few months what students and staff have been up to. We like to have resources that can help engage and keep our community growing.

Where I learned how to prepare myself and the space around me to be inclusive for my patients. Through culture, accessibility, and technology. I also learned different learning styles that I can use to help teach my patients various coping strategies. Through this course I feel more aware as to what exactly is being taught in our schools, which can help me connect with my patients who are in school. I especially enjoyed how our professor in this course has provided multi media to do our assignments. This is a first for me that I had a class like this. The key take away from this course will have to be accessibility and being culturally responsive.
