This neurotransmitter is called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine diffuses across the synapse and attaches to the axon terminals. This generates an electrical current called an action potential. Once the action potential is started, it is unstoppable; conducting the electrical impulse from one end of the cell to another. This results in contraction of the muscle cells.
