         <title>Who was Mary W. Shelley (1797-1817)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mary Shelley was born August 30, 1797 in London, England. Her father, William Godwin, was a philosopher and political writer. Shelley did not know much about her mother since she died after birth. She was left with her father and her half-sister Fanny Imlay. Her father got remarried to Mary Jane Clairmont in 1801. Clairmont brought along her two children and a son with Godwin. Shelley did not get along well with her Clairmont. Shelley was not able to get an education since Clairmont saw no need in it for her. Shelley loved reading and could be found reading by her mother's grave. Even though she did not get an education she used her father's library. She soon published her first poem in 1807. She began a relationship with Percy Byyshe Shelley. He was still married to his first wide and fled England together. Her acts caused her father to not speak to her some time.          <title>Who was Mary W. Shelley (1818-1851)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After suffering from two suicides, Shelley got married to Percy. Soon after she released <em>Frankenstein </em>in 1818. It was a success and moved to Italy. Her life unfortunately was not well. Her marriage was riddled with adultery including the death of two of their children. Only their son, Florence, lived to adulthood and Percy drowned in 1822. She was a widow at age 24 but still worked hard for herself and her son. She promoted her husband's poetry but faced disapproval from his father and son's bohemian lifestyle. Shelley's was not the best but she still continued to work at. She died of brain cancer on February 1, 1851, age 53. Buried at St. Peter's Church in Bournemouth.          <description><![CDATA[<div>She was identified as a Romantic writer. Romantic writers wrote about nature, human feelings, Romantic hero, freedom of the individual, and rebellion against society. Shelley used many of the principles to a Romantic writer.  <em>Frankenstein</em> was considered a Romantic hero. She attempts to show readers that society reject less than average people. It showed the harsh reality of nature. She describes nature and state or nature to the character. She shows how society expects you to follow the social norm to be accepted. The novel represents how the monster tries to fit in.          <description><![CDATA[<div>It was dark, mysterious, and evil tone. Most settings took place during the medieval times. The settings were mainly isolated and at dark castles, palaces, or haunted mansions. It all came together for a sense of evil. The weather also had to do a lot with the theme and setting. They showed the past and emphasis on sexuality. Themes of madness and mention distress was popular in Gothic Literature. It made heavy use of symbolism.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Gothic Romanticism is a literary movement. It is a sub-genre. It combines the element of horror and romance. Put a spin on Romantic idea of nature and the power healing. A feature is the mood through weather. Writers were peering into the darkness of the supernatural. It was popular with female writers. It was dark, mysterious, and had presence of the supernatural. It was often used to teach a message to the reader of the reality versus the unreality. When they saw the individual they saw the potential of evil.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Shelley was in a ghost-writing contest. She wrote in during the summer in 1816. It was concerned with destructive nature of power when allied to wealth. She had writer's block but was soon inspired to continue writing and finishing the story. Reasons behind she wrote <em>Frankenstein </em>was the death of her first child.
