Pros: Works well for personal study sessions or game show-style competition.

Cons: User-generated content isn't always reliable or appropriate. Not as fun or flashy as competitors.

Bottom Line: This is a quality study tool that helps students learn and memorize facts, especially with a paid subscription.

Teachers can also use Quizlet to create individualized learning plans for special education students and closely and promptly assessment their performance.

Ellii is a digital platform that houses interactive courseware. Courseware includes: lesson plans for all levels of English, including different subjects, digital and printable flashcards, readings, audio clips, digital tasks and activities, printable activities, and YouTube videos that complement the courseware, and lessons. 

There are free resources, like some digital flash cards and printable activities, on the website, also, all of their YouTube videos are free. Most of Ellii’s classroom resources, lesson plans, and digital activities are paid. Ellii offers plans from $12 per month to $15 per month, as well as packages for schools. 

It is a website, not an app, so all operating systems are compatible with it. Their resources are compatible with smartboards, as well as digital classrooms. 

Ellii is for English Language teachers, as well as English Language learners of all levels and ages. Their material is clear, and easy to understand, which makes this accessible to all school age students. 

Ellii could be used in almost every aspect of the classroom. The platform has complete lesson plans to present the material to students, which includes activities, dialogues, readings, and other interactive learning activities. 

It can be used in Formative Assessments as an exit ticket, or review from previous lessons, the digital activities can be assigned as homework. The platform also has assignments that can be graded for summative assessment, and the platform has a LMS, so teachers can track students’ progress and grades. Also, students can access the digital library on their own to review information that they need more help or practice with. 

Ellii also has cross curricular, subject specific materials including: Global issues, Nations & Regions, Academic Subjects (STEM, Social-Emotional Learning, Science, Music, etc.), CLB Competencies, and CASAS competencies.

Personal Analysis: 

I personally use Ellii’s YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@Ellii) videos in class to illustrate certain grammar topics that might be a bit dry or more difficult to understand. At the end of each video there is a practice section, which is very nice for interactive review. I have not used any of their paid resources, however, their free resources are of excellent quality, and thorough. Ellii takes their product very seriously, and makes illustrations that appeal to audiences of all ages and various backgrounds. My students enjoy the videos, some of the examples are funny, and my students get entertained while learning, which is very nice. 

Khan Academy offers free of charge practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. Pretty much all subjects from K-14 to test preparation (SAT, Praxis, LSAT) content.

How I use it?
In my practicum, I have 2 classes of learning support needed in Year 9 and 10 Maths.

As with most apps that include using behavior points as part of their student management system, there is a concern about the implementation and use of the negative feedback function and the psychological impact it can have on the learners.

Kahoot! Is a game based learning platform. The games are in the form of short fun quizzes that can be customized by educators. Educators can create games based on their lessons, or can choose pre-made quizzes in several different subjects. Kahoot! has several different free games, but they also offer a premium subscription for $19.99/ month. Kahoot! quizzes cover every subject in school, based on grade level, and they also incorporated “Drops” into their site for students who are learning a new language. Kahoot! is suitable for all ages and grade levels.

I have used Kahoot! for my university students as a formative assessment. I created the quizzes based on the lessons previously taught. Kahoot! has a game pin that students use to sign into the correct game. This game is easy to use, and since it is web and app based, all of my students can participate even though we are not in a physical classroom. The students enjoy the competitive aspect of the game, and even though the points do not go towards their grades, they like seeing the leaderboard at the end of the game. The animations make the game visually appealing and fun. Personally, I find it is an entertaining and interactive way to review materials that have been learned throughout the year. 

Also known as WeChat Work, it is the business equivalent platform to WeChat. Developed and designed by the company Tencent China, it offers a communication experience similar to the standard WeChat app but is a more professional version. The platform can be customized to the needs of the business, allowing a very clear and organized way for teachers to access not only parents but other departments directly from their phones or laptops.

WeCom provides a wealth of OA functions and applications, such as attendance check-in, process approval, financial reimbursement, job reporting, document management, video conferencing, and live-streaming. It can host large groups (300 members per group). WeCom also connects seamlessly to WeChat and there are mini-programs available for both platforms. 

Class-specific notifications from teachers can be sent to the registered accounts of parents. Parents can simply click a button and acknowledge in real-time. Parents can see posts and important bulletins about upcoming events happening within the school through the channels feature. Parent-teacher Conferences can be hosted.

The less business, more social version of WeCom. WeChat can be used as direct communication with parents tool (Chat feature) and as a social media promotional tool (Moments and Channels feature). Teachers can create groups where parents can join and have direct access to teachers solely within the group chat. This does not mean the parent has access to view the teacher’s personal WeChat profile. They would have to request to be added as a friend, which the teacher can decline. Using WeChat as a direct, instant messaging app to communicate with parents is the fastest option (versus email and calling) but DOES require that social media policies and student safeguarding are made very clear to all group members. Group expectations can be posted in the Group Notification feature within each group chat.

Microsoft Teams classes is an LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) app that helps educators and students easily navigate between their LMS and Teams. Users can access their class teams associated with their courses directly from within their LMS. 

Microsoft Teams states “It’s the only app that has communities, events, chats, channels, meetings, storage, tasks, and calendars in one place—so you can easily connect and manage access to information.” Microsoft 365 is integrated within Teams making the Office suite easily accessible. 

Teachers can host video conferences with students, upload assignments to the platform which will appear on the students' dashboards, and directly communicate with parents via email, video conferencing, and chats.
