         <title>Disruptive Design Method</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This method is a very analytical and hands on approach to problem solving of any kind. By thinking about your problem before acting, you give yourself the ability to see different solutions to get to your end result. The thought process behind finding a solution but also checking to see what kind of impact your solution will have on other things reminds me of a domino effect. <br><br>In the reading the author brings up how technology is a well-known and easy to see example of this effect. One thought that comes to my mind is farming in third world countries. Years ago some organizations reached out to different parts of the world to teach more 'sustainable' farming practices for local farmers to get more done with less work. They brought large tractors and plows to be used and educated the local farmers on how to use these implements. The harvest was very successful and the community thrived for a moment. What was not taken into consideration by the organizations was the upkeep of the machinery.<br><br>Getting fuel to run the equipment was at least a forty mile journey from one place to the other and they did not have access to a vehicle. This defeated the purpose of having modern machinery because they didn't have the resources to continue to use the new technology. Thus leading everyone back to their old ways of farming practices. <br><br>This example of finding a solution to a problem is one that shows how technology wasn't necessarily helpful. In fact some could say it was harmful because the machinery now just sits where it ran out of fuel. Had this idea been thought through more thoroughly, they may have come up with a new, more sustainable solution to help the farmers in those countries thrive. <br><br>The '3D' thinking that the disruptive design method entails would most likely have helped make the efforts put forth by the organizations succeed rather than fail as they did. Although this idea of teaching others how to use technology did fail, I feel that it brought a new light to the industry as a whole. Now people who want to change or improve upon farming practices in other areas have more tools and resources to do so. By adding in some critical thinking from different types of people i.e. creatives and non-creatives and the failed attempt at introducing new technologies, we now have a new angle to tackle this issue from. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There is a lot of controversy in new ideas and how to incorporate them in different situations. Having two people with different mind sets or end goals often leads to a disagreement. By putting a creative thinker with a non-creative thinker, I feel that the controversy will push them both to come up with a great solution. <br><br>Once ideas are put into action there can also be some resistance to change from other people, resources, or technology. Change can be scary to some people but it is also inevitable. Deciding whether it is a good or bad change is something that you may not have control over so by thinking about the outcome of other situations, besides your original problem and solution, you may be able to have less resistance in your initial plan and have positive effects on other things as well. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Mining </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The mining phase of problem solving is diving deep into the problem itself. Where did it start? Why/how did it start? I like the word mining for this because it makes me think of digging deeper. Miners dig deep to find their products. As a thinking miner you dig deep to find the underlying causes of your problem so you can make an informed and educated solution. <br><br>Cognitive biases made me instantly think of school. I recently decided to come back to school and having the premonition of 'Am I doing the right thing here?' has been slightly overwhelming. This is definitely based on the feelings I had before when I was in school.<br><br> My mindset has changed a lot since I left but I have this underlying dominant voice still asking that question. It's so ingrained in my brain that I cannot help but let the thought pass through my head. Utilizing  cognitive intervention I am able to separate myself from my negative bias about school and push forward to see what this semester brings. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Digging deep into a problem is just one component to the mining process. You need to look at the problem through someone else's eyes in order to understand the full ramifications that your solution is going to encompass. By using the x-map from the book, you can easily gather more insight on what you are focusing on by just asking a few questions. This model helps to illustrate the ideas of other people, which is something that this entire method focuses on. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Life Cycle Thinking <br><br>The ripple effect is what I though of during this process. This idea that one change will cause many others to happen is what happens when something is thrown off course. <br><br>One example is imports and exports. With the ports being closed for so long some feed manufacturers ran out of packaging material and therefore had to substitute with generic bags to send out their packaged products. This then confused consumers forcing them to read the printed tags in order to find out what product they were purchasing.  </div>]]></description>
