Resurrection                              Opinion on the idea of human sin? Have we all done wrong? Was it a justifiable sacrifice? How would the disciples feel after the resurrection (maybe specifically Judas?) how does the story make them feel thinking about themes of love and hope and forgiveness

Questions that will inspire pupil’s thinking and understanding:

 

What is a refugee? What makes a refugee different from a migrant? 

 

In groups, come up with some countries where there is an outpouring of refugees at the moment. If another group says the same country as you, choose another one so we’ll have 5 or 6 different ones over the whole class. 

 

Have you ever had to move house, move school, town or country? Was it stressful or tiring? Have you ever had to move when you didn’t want to? 

 

Write down your 5 most important things that you wouldn’t want to leave behind.

Choose some pupils to tell the class what they wrote down. Did anyone choose the same kind of things – example parents, siblings, house, favourite beach etc? By a show of hands, pupils can agree with their fellow pupils and find some common ground. They’ll see that they hold a lot of the same things dear.

 

What would it take for you to leave this behind? Imagine you have to leave on a boat in 1 hour, without saying goodbye or taking any of your things. What are the circumstances in which you would have to do this?

 

What would you expect on arrival if you arrived in a safe country? In your small groups, list what you’d hope to receive in a new country from most essential to least. For example, what do you need most urgently? Food, water, somewhere to sleep. What would you like? Things that would make you happy.

 

Learning about:

The story of Hanukkah with a pause for discussion on that.

Then if there is time talk about how they celebrate the holiday.

 

Learning from:

Hopefully opens a discussion around religious tolerance and a wider discussion about differing opinions or beliefs and what possible ways there are to deal with conflict and if the students felt how the greeks acted was justifiable. (Relevant to qualities and skills to sustain relationships as its dealing with empathy a crucial skill in relationships, and understanding)

Hopefully nurtures a more open minded young person who can see situations as nuanced and have multiple perspectives on things. (relevant to making informed choices about life and learning because you need to be open minded to receive learning in an engaged way, and to consider life choices and actions in a thoughtful way)
