Essential question: What could the future of our planet Earth look like if we as people on this planet do not make an effort to decrease the rate of global warming soon? Look at the posts below to learn about global warming and to see different graphs and statistics about global warming, and to see why global warming is a big problem and needs to be accessed and fixed now

Why You Should be Concerned

You should be greatly concerned about global warming and the activities that us humans take part in our everyday lives that increase the rate of global warming because before long, we won't have any of our planet earth left, there will be no suitable land for us humans or any other species to live, and there are no other place for us to go because there is no plan be and all specie would become extinct! According to NOAA's 2020 Annual Climate Report, the combined land and ocean temperature has increased at an average rate of 0.13 degrees Fahrenheit ( 0.08 degrees Celsius) per decade since 1880; however, the average rate of increase since 1981 (0.18°C / 0.32°F) has been more than twice that rate. These findings show that the rates of global warming are getting worse, and if they continue to increase at a quicker rate, some scientists believe that if we don't stop global warming rates by 2040, the effects caused by global warming will become permanent and our planet will be doomed.

How Much Knowledge People have on Global Warming

I created a survey asking people how much they knew about global warming on a scale of 1-5. 1 being very little and 5 being a lot. The results are shown below. The results show that 16 out of 33 people only have an average amount of knowledge of global warming. These results, were very saddening to see, but the reality is that this data very similarly represents the data for the rest of the people in the U.S. as well. According to the Yale Program of Climate Change, only 57% of people have an average/base amount of knowledge on global warming, and that is not good. This number needs to be at least in the mid to high eighty's if not the 90's!

What People do to Increase Rates of Global Warming

There are many everyday activities that people take part in that emit large amount of greenhouse gasses that people are not aware of. According to the European Commission, activities that cause an increase in global warming rates are driving a car, disposing lots of waste/not recycling, using a lot of plastics, burning fossil fuels, using heating/air conditioning, Grilling food outside, having a garden but not taking care of it, and taking care of livestock. I created a survey asking people to select all of the activities that they take part in, and the data is shown below. This data shows that the majority of people take part in 4 or more of these activities, and it makes sense why these activities listed in the survey are a big reason for global warming, because almost everyone takes part in them.

How can People Decrease the Rates of Global Warming

According to Natural Resources Defense Council, activities that cause a decrease in global warming rate are carpooling, recycling, using reusable dishes/cups/glasses, using solar energy, using lower watt light bulbs, planting trees, using less hot water, using energy efficient products, riding a bike or walking instead of driving, and spreading awareness. I then used these events/activities and asked a survey question asking people what which of the activities they would be willing to take part in order to decrease the rates of global warming. The results below were very comforting and good to see because just about every person selected five different activities they would be willing to take part in. Now, the next big step would be to put those sections into action, and for people to start applying those actions to there everyday lives.

According to the Nation Academies of Science and Engineering, weather patterns linked to global warming are high/more frequent rainfall, snowstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, heat waves, extremely high and low fluctuating temperatures, and an annual increase in average global temperature. In my survey, I asked people which of the following weather patterns they thought were linked to global warming. The results showed on average that people believed that 4 of the 8 patterns were linked to global warming, but actually, it was all eight of them. These weather patterns will only continue to get more severe and become worse over time as global warming rates increase, and we have to find a way to stop this from happening.

Jobs that emit greenhouse gases are Architecture/Construction/Engineering, Manufacturing, Electrician, Transportation, and Factory Worker. These jobs all have higher numbers of people in their fields compared to other jobs. In my survey, I asked people if their jobs either emitted greenhouse gases or not, and the results were very comforting because about 85% of people's jobs do not emit greenhouse gases. However, this is only a 33 person sample, and if I would have survey the whole globe, the results would be very different, and not in a good way. These jobs are still needed, but their needs to be change in how things are done to decrease the rates of global warming.

In my survey, I asked people what they thought the two most emitted greenhouse gases into the atmosphere where, and the results were very good to see. The vast majority of people said that carbon dioxide and methane were the two main gases, and according to the EPA the two main gases emitted are carbon dioxide and methane. But now that people know, the next step is to greatly increase the amounts of those gases emitted into the atmosphere.

In my survey, I asked people to select the two species that they believed were the most effected by global warming. The majority of people chose Arctic and Ocean species, and according to WorldLife.org, arctic and ocean are the two most effected species, so those people are correct. This is good that people know that the two most effected species are arctic and ocean, but now we as people on this earth need to fidn a way to make a change to that so no species are effected by global warming by decreasing the rates of global warming.
