I usually go to the library and study every night from 7-9 or later, if necessary. I usually spend about 20 minutes before each class studying notes from the previous lecture. It's important to schedule study time because if you don't, then important things could sneak up on you, like tests or quizzes. If you schedule your study time, you're more likely to stay on top of your studies and do better in your classes. Scheduling study time helps me stay organized.

I always write down what the professor says to study, but I also add in the things she says in class. I bring my notecards to class so that when she or he says something important I'm able to write it down. When studying the notecards, I do all of them and if I get one wrong I put it one pile, but if I get one right I put it in another pile. After I go through the whole stack, I ignore the right pile and pick up the wrong pile to start the process all over again. This helps me be able to focus on the things I don't know so well rather than studying the whole thing over and over.

I usually plan out what class I am going to be studying for or doing HW for before hand so that I will know what I am going to be doing when I go to the library or wherever I go. I liked this idea of the study plan sheet that we learned in class to help study for tests. Where you rate on a scale of what information you know the best and what information you know the least on the upcoming test. That way you know what information you need to study the most when preparing for the test and this is proably something that i will use in the future.

I believe that the best way to stay on schedule or use good time management skills is to constantly plan two hours ahead for everything. For example, If today was Sunday and I had 3 assignments due on Tuesday I would simply plan to do at least two out of the three assignments by the end of Sunday Night and complete the third assignment the next day. Also whenever I struggle with an assignment I first try to find my professor during their availability hours and if that does not work I go to the student success center for tutoring. Whenever I do not know when my professors are busy I go directly to my syllabus matrix. The syllabus matrix list the expectations and hours of availability f each of my professors.

I am a visual person, so like to see everything written out and separated into groups, so thats why color coding helps me the most. I use it for my notes in class, but most importantly, I use it when planning in my agenda. My agenda is separated day by day so I can see a full week on one page, and I use colored pens to separate homework, events, and tests by SUBJECT and IMPORTANCE. For example, I use the color blue to write my assignments for Biology, green for Chemistry, yellow for English, Red for Math, orange for Foundations, and purple for labs. This makes writing in my agenda fun, so I am more likely to write homework down and check my agenda throughout the week. Also, in a way, color coding helps separate assignments by importance. I am a biology major, so if I see the color blue, then I do that assignment first, and very thorough because while all classes are important, that one lays the foundation for my next main classes over the next four years. However, when I see orange, even though Foundations is important, that homework usually gets done last because I took a class like it in high school so, and it is mainly review.

Quadrant 1 is where all of the Michael Scotts are. They always wait until the last second to do something, and then freak out. Quadrant 3 is where all of the SpongeBobs are. They never have time for themselves, and are always consumed with emails and text messages. Quadrant 4 is where all of the Homer Simpsons are. They don't care, and would rather be eating potato chips on a chair and watching a movie. Quadrant 2 is where all of the Leslie Knope's are. They know how to balance their life between personal time and work. Which means they know how to make a paper important but not urgent, by doing a little bit of it each day and finishing it before the deadline. They also know how to make their religious life important, but not unimportant by planning stuff around their worship time. I think we should all strive to be Leslie Knope's, and make quadrant 2 the most time consuming quadrant. If you don't know who Leslie Knope is, go watch Parks and Recreation on Netflix.

Faneuff – Looking at the Whole Picture

This organizational tool can be used to help you keep all of your information from each and every one of your syllabi in one place. Using this tool will save time because you do not have to go searching all around for each one of your syllabi. This organizational sheet has each of your courses as well as professors office hours and location, exam schedules, attendance policies, and late/make-up work policies. Organizing these categories will help you limit your stress as well as show your professional and hard-working attitude. For me personally, the syllabi organization sheet helps me keep track of all of the attendance policies which can be very helpful when I am having to prioritize class attendance whenever unexpected situations occur. This sheet also helps me when I am going to make an appointment in Starfish because I can look under the class I am needing assistance with and find the professor’s office hours and office location. You can also take a picture of this sheet and keep it on your cell phone or laptop so you can access it anywhere. In order to help you see the concept of this organizational tool, I have attached a copy of the syllabi chart that I created for my fall semester.

On the monthly calendar, I will write big things such as tests or a paper being due. I will also write meetings, or appointments. In my planner, it has a monthly calendar at the beginning as well, and then it breaks down into weeks and days. I begin by writing in the most important things on my monthly calendar, like I do with my desk calendar. Then, I will go into the day-by-day section and write in other assignments that may be due, but that are not as urgent. Since I am writing these things down in several places, it helps me to remember them.

I make sure to write down what needs to be done in how much time i have, so the the things that are due soon get done first. When studying i like to go over the vocab and broad info because it seems to be the most important. After that i go over the smaller facts and write down while reading instead of after.

The primary strategy I use to help myself organize important events and assignments would have to be a physical planner. I write down every assignment issued date and due date. I write these dates down so I make sure to set aside time to complete these tasks. I also write down important events like concert dates and very important test dates (Mid-terms and Finals). These

Use the notes you take in class and write down summaries of each section. The summaries you write down should be on posted notes. Then you use the posted notes and place them on information in your textbook that matches. Now that you have the posted notes down you can get to your class 10 minutes early if you can, or use 10 minutes after class to review the posted notes and compare them to the text. If you do this before or after every class you will rack up 20 to 40 minutes of study time every week. Lets say you have an exam in three weeks, if you go by this system you have racked up 40 to 80 minutes of studying without even knowing it.

After getting my first biology test back I wasn't totally disappointed, but I was also not completely satisfied with my grade. I had all the notes, I had made and reviewed my quizlet, read the textbook, and still didn't fully grasp the information. I was sitting in class at the beginning of the first lecture for the next unit realizing my professor talks awful fast. I then pulled up the voice recording app on my phone. After that I recorded every lesson for the rest of the unit and reviewed them weekly. This is was crucial in my success for the unit 2 test.
