Levittowns were primarily located in the American Northeast, with the first ones located in the New York area. These brand new communities had all new appliances and furniture inside and were completely modern. Their demographics were also almost entirely white. Santa Clarita and Levittown are very similar in the arrangement of the neighborhoods. The only differences are in the demographics and in the geography, as well as the house sizes.

The first Levittown was designed by Abraham Levitt on August 2, 1929. These communities had variations of house models that differed in color, interior, and floor plan.This is not exactly similar to Santa Clarita. The homes in Santa Clarita are far more diverse. There are smaller less expensive homes in Santa Clarita. Then there are more expensive far larger homes costing upwards of $8 million. Santa Clarita was also built overtime expanding outwards. Levittowns were very planned out and all the locations were predetermined.

They were incredibly safe neighborhoods. They were typically located near cities, but never within them. The growth of the Levittowns occurred following the return of all the soldiers from the war. These soldiers had a decent amount of money that they could now spend on buying homes. An attraction of the Levittowns were that they were far less crowded than the cities, the homes had yards, and they gave some space for families to spread out. The Levittowns also had swimming pools. All of this is very much a parallel to Santa Clarita. Most of the residents of Santa Clarita are middle class. Santa Clarita is also quite a ways from Los Angeles, but close enough that one could go there when necessary. Many of the residents in the valley value safety, which was also a priority of Levittown residents.

Most of the residents were in their 40s with children. Once one outgrows the city life following their 20s Levittowns were an ideal place to go. Most residents looking to start families are interested in a more quiet place. The fast pace of the cities is no longer pleasant. This was well reflected in the Levittowns. They were far more quiet than cities and this is similar in Santa Clarita as well. Levittowns were also a residence rather than a place where people worked. In Santa Clarita most of the residence do not work within the cities limits. This was exactly like Levittowns. The residents wanted to come home to a less stressful environment further from work. Most of the residents of Levittowns commuted. In Santa Clarita most residents commute about 15-20 minutes to work.

Levittowns had everything that a resident needs. The Levittowns had all the amenities such as stores, convenience stores, baseball diamonds, and community rec centers. The only difference between Levittowns and Santa Clarita is that Santa Clarita is almost an elevated Levittown. For one, Santa Clarita is far bigger than the average Levittown. The number of residents in Santa Clarita is far more than the typical Levittown. Santa Clarita also has an amusement park as well as a very large mall. Santa Clarita also has far more recreational activities such as golf courses.

The Levittowns were almost 97.25 percent white. This is a far cry from the demographics of Santa Clarita Valley. Levittowns went so far as to discourage African-Americans from taking up residence. Some of the codes in the Levittown guidelines specifically stated that minorities were not welcome. This is almost unimaginable in Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita is 30 percent Hispanic and the racial makeup is roughly 50-50 white and non-white. It is expected that by 2030 whites will no longer be a majority in Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita also welcomes diversity. In a time in when soldiers were guarenteed housing after the war, it would be sensible to allow black veterans to reside in Levittown right? Wrong, as it did not fit into the middle class, white aesthetic. Today in Santa Clarita, diversity is celebrated, whether you are black, white, asian, Latino, pacific islander or whatever ethnicity, you will be accepted into the community.This is the primary difference between Santa Clarita and Levittowns; the vast diversity.
