CJ, a young African American boy wanted to return home after church and not join Nana on their weekly volunteer trip at the soup kitchen. But, Nana stuck to their routine and brought CJ along on their bus trip across town. So, on the ride there, CJ became pessimistic and noticed everything that is wrong with the world and questioned Nana about why they are different from other people at each stop. Then, through CJ’s questions, Nana describes the beauty she sees, rather than focusing on the negatives, and encourages CJ to do so as well.  Finally, as they arrive at “the last stop on Market Street” CJ takes Nana’s positive perspective and recognizes familiar faces at the soup kitchen, and realizes he is happy they went.
