The Lumicell Direct Visualization System is a Device that has recently been FDA approved for use in patients undergoing cancer treatment. The purpose of this device is for Physicians to be able to visualize any remnants of tumor when conducting procedures such as lumpectomies in breast cancer patients (ClinicalTrials.gov, n.d.). By injecting an optical imaging agent (pegulicianine) 2 hours before the procedure and using a special fluorescent light to enhance the imaging agent, the provider will then be able to visualize any excess tumor left over.

Pros-Being able to illuminate cancerous tissue on the screen while performing the surgery.

-More detailed look of the cancer itself, along with being able to see if there is any left after removing the tissue.

Cons-Possible Hypersensitivity reaction to the IV Dye that is injected prior to surgery.

-Possible Misdiagnosis-May have a positive signal during surgery for suspected cancerous tissue but also could be natural tissue that is being removed instead of the cancer.

In my opinion, I think this device is great. I say that because breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer among women in the US. According to the CDC, for every 100,000 women, 133 will get breast cancer in their lifetime (USCS Data Visualizations, n.d., p. 1). If we had the chance to make sure every piece of cancerous tissue is out by using this device, we could potentially save more lives.

To add to this, my strength of connectedness will allow our team to connect with one another and align our views under one goal. Being a realtor will allow me to help our team become close to one another. As far my Woo trait, this will enable me to help us develop relationships with other people. Lastly, having belief as one of my strengths will help me instill the belief of our goal into our team.
