My name is Heidi Carrillo and I am 32 years old. I was born and raised in Long Beach and it is still where I live and work. I am working towards obtaining my B.A degree in early childhood education. I received my associate's degree from Long Beach City College. I am a teacher for the Long Beach Unified School District Child Development Centers. I have been in the program for about 7 years now first as a child care worker and now as a teacher. In the program I have worked with preschoolers from ages 3-5 and in school age care which has children from kindergarten to fifth grade. For the past 3 years I have been co-teaching in a TK classroom.

My passion

When I am not at work I can usually be found at the gym. I enjoy weight training and it has turned into one of my passions. I started almost 7 years ago and it has taught me how to be disciplined and consistent. It helps me manage everyday stress and is just a positive outlet in my life. One of my goals for this upcoming year is to get certified as a personal trainer. I signed up for a self paced course a while back but I haven't been consistent with my studying so that is something I will be working on making time for. I not only want to improve my own health/ fitness levels but hope to also be able to help others.

I also started running last October and have completed two half marathons and one full-marathon.

My family is what I love most! I am the youngest of two sisters. I have 3 nephews and 2 nieces. We love to go out to eat together, watch movies, and visit amusement parks. We are all very close and always there for each other. They are my biggest supporters!

My Hobbies

I enjoy listening to all types of music and I love going to concerts. I love hiking and I like being outdoors. I also really love coffee!! :)

As a child I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I love the quote that says "Teachers plant seeds that grow forever" because as an early childhood educator we are the ones who instill children with the desire to learn and enjoy school. We set the foundation that helps them develop academically, socially, and emotionally. I have always loved being around children and being able to help them learn new things. I want to help make a difference in the lives of the children who enter my classroom by creating an environment that is positive, nurturing, and welcoming.
