The Office of the Dean of Studies is a department that comprises the Class Deans whose purpose is to support the academic and personal development of students during their time at Barnard. There is a designated dean for each class year, who is the point person for any students in that year who may have questions or concerns that are impacting their academics, or who may just need some additional support. The Dean of Studies Office coordinates the pre-major advising at the college, and works closely with the Provost’s Office and the approximately 100 faculty members who serve as pre-major advisers. The Class Deans are available by individual appointments, as well as walk-ins, and communicate with students in our class years via the Class Blogs and the weekly 411 newsletters.
