In 2012 Tesco stopped its operations in Japan, why do you think Walmart has stayed until this point? Do you think Walmart’s partnership with Rakuten will be successful and why?

1. stayed until this point?
-Walmart believes they will ultimately be successful, but in Japan, the company does not resonate with the customers as much as it does in the US
2.

1.) I think that Walmart doesn't like to accept or be a part of any type of defeat, so they will do anything and everything to make this venture work

2.) I believe the partnership will be unsuccessful due to the fact that if Walmart and its resources have not already scanned the market successfully it probably won't happen.

1. We believe Walmart has stayed in Japan because they don't want to accept the failure. Therefore, wants to continue to work towards a stronger presence in Japan to uphold their reputation.
2. If they fully understand the cultural differences and aspects then we feel they will be successful. With the aid of Rakuten, they might be able to reach their goal.

1. Walmart has stayed until this point because they are a pretty successful company. With that, being open an around longer, it gives the company a chance to build up their sales and reach a new demographic of consumers that other businesses can't.
2. Rakuten is already a known company in Japan therefore it should be successful when partnering with Walmart.

1. Walmart has stayed because of how much of an opportunity the could have in Japan but they have not figured out how to achieve the success the way they have done in other areas.
2. Walmart is seeking a new opportunity and it will help them because they will evolve into a company that can speak to the Japanese culture and connect with their consumers more.

1. Im sure Walmart realizes that Japan is a very profitable target market and wants to capitalize on that.

2. No, the delivery service is not based off of the culture of the people of Japan. Walmart needs to focus on their "treasure-hunting" way of shopping and cater to that instead of trying to Americanize their shopping habits.

1. We think that Walmart has stayed until this point because they still believe that they can be a competitor in that market and they are willing to try new things to capture market share in Japan.
2. We think that the partnership with Rakuten will be successful because Rakuten is a Japanese company who could likely share their market knowledge with Walmart and guide them to more profitable decisions.

Walmart may have stayed in Japan because they are prideful of their home success and do not want to give up, trying to THE a global retailer who gets it right.
This route could be successful because it is honoring and partnering with a Japanese company that is already well received and popular. This shows their intentions are to be like a partner and not another big competitor in Japan.

1. Walmart might have been able to remain successful longer than Tesco because it gave itself a new identity to relate more to the Japanese consumer by giving a new name known as Seiyu.

2. I think it could save them because smaller countries usually tend to have more convenient options available. Japanese people enjoy the treasure hunt but maybe adding convenience might change their minds.
