In these pages the Lobel apologizes to his father in a letter for joining the army. The squad landed and was looking for any signs that the Charlie Company might have left behind. They had to walk up a hill where the grass was really tall to the point where you can barely see. Perry was scared of stepping on a mine when his M-16 got stuck on a branch and Peewee helped him. The congs found them and started shooting. Perry and his squad are leaving for a patrol and Perry catches Lobel writing to his father. After leaving the Company landed somewhere with Punji sticks and avoided them. They spend the rest of the trip avoiding mines and find a spider hole. They are attacked by the enemy and try to go up hill but suffer casualties. Among those casualties is Perry himself, who is shot twice. Perry and his squad were dropped off at the LZ. They were suppose to be doing a interdiction number. Which means that they were supposed to be cutting off the routes the Congs could use to cut off the First Corps from the rest of the war. The Congs that the Squad was after were setting up a mortar attack from somewhere in the jungle.
