According to the text, Okonkwo accidentally kills Ezeudu's son during Ezeudu's funeral. This had happened by Okonkwo's gun exploding a piece of iron into Ezeudu's son's heart. This specific event was not planned and had occurred by accident. When Okonkwo had killed Ikemefuna, he had done it out of fear of appearing weak. In addition, he feared that if he did not kill Ikemefuna he would look like his father. Despite the fact that both events were unplanned and occurred by accident, Ikemefuna was ordered to be killed while Ezeudu's son was not.
