An insight that I have gained from this whole process is the extent to which our systems engender a dangerous lack of independence in kids when it comes to managing their own learning. Without teachers there at all times to hand-hold and correct, many of our students floundered. We are reaping what we have sown. Teachers were forced to expand their networks and pull from a variety of resources that they may have otherwise not had the felt need for. This learning was expedited because of the pandemic. There is a willingness and recognition that professional development is required for all, which was not the case prior to March. Many had real trepidations about technology and became the helpers and the teachers of others. 

I always knew the nuances in a classroom were many and varied- that education is so much beyond the core content areas, but these nuances became the barrier between our educators and our students. It seems nearly impossible to replicate the subtleties of a classroom in a remote format. It was extraordinarily disheartening.
