During the COVID-19 pandemic, limited ICU resources have become apparant all around the world. In Germany, a controversial law has been introduced to facilitate medical triage, i.e., deciding, which patient receives intensive care if there are not enough resources for all patients. According to this law, only the momentary and short-term survival chances must be weighed in the decision making. Furthermore, the law prohibits "ex-post-Triage", a term that refers to stopping a treatment of a patient in need for intensive care for another patient with a more favorable prognosis. Do you see any problems regarding this law? What factors should be accounted for in medical triage? Which patients might be at a disadvantage?
