🌸How do we contextualize worker's experiences of violence in systemic structures/oppression?

• homelessness in CID impacting CID residents lives negatively

  • homicide

  • property destruction

  • homeless encampaments/congregation

  • harassment / assault / rape

• government / state neglect leads to worsening of the situation

  • ex: shelters did not consider community members desires, pharmacies and groceries closed, CID becoming a publically advertised hub while other areas are unutilized

• connection historical racism against asian immigrants + underresourcing CID/CD redlined communities

• Use of COVID19 special policies to justify breaking zoning regulations

• empathizing/sympathizing with homeless people and wanting better housing and resources + acknowledging ppl dont want temporary or congregate shelter

• + have anti homeless sentiments and don't want to see homeless ppl in the area

How do we contextualize workers' experiences of violence in systemic structures/oppression?

• redlining --> CID as a impoverished racialized, underresourced neighborhood where its easier for the city to place unwanted institutions

• neoliberal funding / budgeting -->

  • city allocating money towards money making industries + war rather than social services like housing, state and city

  • neighborhood budget spent on hiding the problem via sweeps and criminalizing homelessness and poverty, rather than long term solutions

• lack of emergency response due to lack of budget (see above) + police being the only emergency resource in the US + police being an agent of protecting capitalism/property

• Inefficacy and inaccessibility of local politics

  • CID community members do not have real pathways to exercise their political voice to county or city. Inaccessibility of local politics. Language barriers.
