Being an agent is apart of Aaron Hotchner's master status due to this being his main role within his identity making him who is his and the role he has to take part in by being the head leader of the team within Criminal minds. This was an achieved status due to him having to work in order to gain this position of work. Role conflict shown within this role and husband occur due to him having this intense job which made him very neglectful towards his wife which eventually forced her to leave him due to him not choosing her over this lifestyle in which he was addicted to. A status symbol apart of the role of an agent consists of his suit in which resembles seriousness, professional identity, and compels people to respect him.

Aaron plays the role of a husband which unfortunately does not workout in the end due to him having this agent job and forcing her away and he does not play the roles of a present husband which causes resentment within their marriage and ends it. This role is achieved due to him previously putting in love and effort but his love and effort shifted to his work and lessons in his marriage. A status symbol apart of this role is his wedding ring that he wore even after Foyet killed his (ex) wife because he loved her so much even though he couldn't provide the right attention for her to stay with him.

This role contains a lot of pressure due to his job and causes role strain between his son and job and when he wants to see his son he has to work and when he doesn't have work his wife would be angry and interfere with the time he would want to spend with his son.

This status is an achieved status due to the ability he has to make friends and work to earn trust from his fellow coworkers alongside the people he saved throughout the show.

Hotch also possesses the role of an enemy due to Foyet feeling as if he lost power due to Shaughnessy's death therefore replacing him with Hotch to assert this power and in his own fictional reality, a reason to kill. This position that Hotch holds is achieved due to him having this job and he in a weird way earned this role because he is the best agent and Foyet wanted to have a challenge of not getting caught and wanting to hurt Hotch in the most horrific ways possible. A status symbol apart of this role consists of always having a gun due to the faer he has that Foyet will come for him and he needs to protect himself alongside the people he loves even though the inevitable happens and his wife dies due to Foyet killing her.
