In India, we celebrate Diwali(Deepavali) every year in the month of October or November , its one of the biggest festivals for us. We lights up our house with Diya ( say candles) and wear new Indian Ethnic dress and cook lot of festive dishes and sweets. We also do fireworks on this day.

Diwali is festival lights. On this day, We pray god to remove darkness and lead us towards the light. We Lite lamps and burn crackers. We also make sure our families and friends meet on this day and celebrate together.

Once upon a time, in a beautiful place called the ayodhaya, lived prince Rama! He was married to the beautiful Sita! But, as fate will have it, they had to spend 14 years of vanavasam (living in the forest).

During that time, the demon king Ravana, fell for the beautiful sita and wanted to marry her. But she loved Rama very much. So, Ravana made a devious plan and kidnapped her. Now, Sita was not just beautiful, but was a clever too. She left clues behind. These clues led rama to the place she was held as a prisoner. With the help of his loving brother Lakshman and disciple – Lord Hanuman and a lot more friends, Rama fought the war against Ravana. And won it fair and square!

To celebrate his victory and his return to his rightful land of ayodhya as its ruler, the people of ayodhya lit up the streets and their home with lamps! They welcomed Rama, sita and Lakshmana with a lot of love! Since then, we all remember and celebrate that day, for their bravery and defeat of the darkness, as Diwali!

That is just one of the Diwali story, that I heard! Here is another, one that my grandma told me. Personally my favourite – because Krishna and more importantly Sathyabhama, a lady warrior killed Narakasura!

Deepavali is often referred to as Festival of Lights. It is celebrated during the month between mid of Oct and mid of Nov. Deepavali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness and good over evil”.
On this day, we take oil bath, wear new clothes, do prayers, eat lots of sweets and snacks, get together with families and friends and play fireworks.
