Hey everyone! Nice to meet you all. :) My preferred name is Jeanette and I am a current adjunct professor in Psychology. I live in Huntington Beach so I teach only online in asynchronous formats for the department. I've been with BC since fall of 2022 and absolutely love teaching here! The students are the best! I hope to gain insights into technology and more creative ideas to bring engaging activities to my online classes and enhance engagement and connection between a rather traditionally disconnected environment. Look forward to working with you all!

I have not taught online yet, but I am anxious for the opportunity to expand my teaching score in the online atmosphere. As an online student, I have experience highs and lows with certain lesson delivery, but nothing overwhelming nor difficult. I want to take advantage of different methods or ways to build community among my online students.

I was hired by Bakersfield College but only taught two one week courses before they were cancelled due to lack of attendance. So I am wanting to increase my online knowledge because up to now the courses in Canvas I taught were preloaded and we only had to change a few items to make them great. I am excited to learn new things I can add to my online courses.

Hey everyone,

I'm Amalia Calderon, and I'm thrilled to be joining you as a first-year instructor at Bakersfield College, teaching business courses. It's been quite a journey to get here—I've actually been with BC for over six years, mainly working in Human Resources. After completing my MBA a few years back and doing some serious self-reflection on my life goals, I decided to make the switch to become an educator. My aim is to help individuals make a meaningful impact.

In this first year, I've had the chance to teach in all sorts of modalities—Zoom, in-person, online, and hybrid. So far, I find myself leaning towards either 100% in-person or 100% online formats. I'm really looking forward to soaking up insights from educators who have more experience than me.

I have never taught online, but I have lots of online learning experience online because I went back to school for my bachelor's degrees during the pandemic. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I had to learn a lot about my computer and I learned that I liked taking some classes online, but hated taking others like math online. One thing I hope to gain from this class is to learn how to actually teach online. I know how to learn online, but I do not know how to teach online.

I am an English adjunct at both CSUB and BC, where I teach composition/research and introduction to literature. I predominantly teach face-to-face classes (save for one semester during the onset of the pandemic and one hybrid course), but the course Canvas is an integral part of instruction. I take great care in making sure that everything I post, as well as the Canvas itself, is accessible, engaging, and approachable. Since I have pretty much been learning on-the-spot, I am always eager to deepen and expand my skillsets. I am currently earning my MLIS at San Jose State University, and the program is entirely online, which has introduced me to even more (and better) ways of delivering content and instruction. I look forward to continually refining my skills!
