There is talks and speculation about a self drive truck that is currently being manufactured and will be tested in the future. This is alarming for many a industry as everyone is still relying on truck drivers. Freighting companies, milking companies, furniture removal companies to mention a few.
If this does prove to be successful there will be a large number of people that will loose their jobs. With this said HR will not be such a high priority as you do not need to manage a truck, or practice H&S. If this is on the cards then there will be robots on the cards to do more of the physical work out there as well. Once again no need to frett over a robot. Programmes that is being created is being done with less human interference as possible. I do believe that the human touch, emotion, creativity can not be instilled in a robot.

You have raised some really interesting points Minette. There is a lot that can be anticipated with diverless cars and the jobs and industries which will be effected by them. An insurance company I worked for predicted that driverless cars would lower the amount of accidents on the road therefore the need for insurance on motor vehicles. I watched a video recently which looked at the impact of automation on white collar work which I found really interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbrfQaHsC6U. This video is 10 minutes long but if you get a chance to watch it I'd be really interested in what you think.

Thank you so much for the video. I found it very interesting as well as eye opening. White collar jobs are being targeted, will they succeed? Maybe. They do need humans to programme those computers to be able to do all the work. It will be sad to see those positions being taken over as that will take away the humanity that people still need. I remember back in SA my husband used to programme robots to work in massive bread companies. They did not want human hands handling the baked bread or products. This was all changed and automated. 70 percent of people were out of jobs.
