         <description><![CDATA[<div>By the late 1890s there were 17 individual groups that were advocating women's suffrage, on the 14th of October 1897 these groups joined together to form the NUWSS, to be able to represent every active suffrage society in Britain. Lydia Becker was elected president and 3 years later when Becker died Millicent Fawcett became the new leader.<br><br></div>]]></description>
