The myth??

"Physical activity only counts if you do it for long periods of time". This is actually a myth. This statement can almost go hand in hand with the saying "Quality over Quantity". It's like how pointless the result would be if you were to do something 50 times but with completely no effort and inaccurately compared to if you did it 20 times but completely accurate.

Daily exercise recommendation

In Australia, it is recommended that we partake in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. While this guideline does provide for a good starting point, the problem is how ambiguous it can be. 60 minutes of just exercise means that you can do any type of exercise, from cardio to muscle strengthening workouts. Imagine comparing a 60 minute walk to a 60 minute run on a treadmill, same time duration, but the intensity of both workouts are quite different.

This is not necessarily always true. This statement can be taken into account only when the exercise is done at a certain degree of intensity. Sometimes, when doing core exercises while truly engaging your muscles, taking your time with the exercises would actually benefit because you are truly working those areas and putting effort into them.

The most important thing when it comes to exercise is that, for an exercise to be as effective as can be, you need to make sure you are engaging the right muscles and working the right areas. The exercise would have to be an intense and vigorous session for it to actually count as proper exercise. If an exercise is done incorrectly, there are risks of straining certain muscles, pains that aren't meant to occur and the obvious being that it just won't work, it wouldn't be effective at all.
